The NBA has announced that Vancouver's Michael Dickerson will replace Vince Carter in the Schick Rookie Game during All-Star Saturday. Carter was named as a starter in the All-Star Game to be played on Sunday, opening a spot for Dickerson.

Good for Dickerson; he deserves it. One question regarding this rookie game, why are their only 8 players per team? I can understand they only want the best of the rookie class, but since two rookie classes are playing, it means a lot of players who would have played in any other season don't get to (Mobes) They could have at least extended it to 10 player per.

I think the league wants to mainly showcase the top 3 or 4 stars of the previous year and this year's rookies. By having 2 additional players, starters (especially the 3 or 4 "star" players) will have to lose minutes. Just like in playoffs, teams usually go with 8 guys. Your 9th and 10th players usually play around 3 to 5 minutes at most. In a Rookie game like this, 3 to 5 minutes will not be fair for the 9th & 10th guy. So why have them there.

IMHO, I think this 8 player format is just right. Sorry Cat, but maybe you can go to the real thing in a couple of years and show them up.
