Ok ok he needs time to learn the Offense i understand, he needs time to adjust to the culture yea i understand, he needs time for the language adjustment, yea i understand. Maybe his teammates dont pass him the ball ok i understand, maybe rudy doesnt give him plays maybe i understand.. But dammit at 7-6 you should be able to freaking dunk a 2ft dunk and you should atleast know how to freaking play D and Rebound...... Thats my input!
I just wish at this stage, he would be able to block some shots. It seems like guys that are 6'4" drive the lane and shoot right over him. Kinda frustrating.
yea i saw on ESPN some guy in a highlight just make a routine layup with him right under it???? i was like ??? even Matt Maloney wouldve blocked that?
Here's what I got to say about the Ming situation....all I know is that if I played basketball for a whole year with no real break I'd be pretty freakin' tired. What folks have to realize is that this guy has not had an "off season" he played the CBA season, then played the World Championships then proceeded to play the Asian games. Took a couple of days off then flew to Houston. Where he had maybe 24 hours rest then started an NBA 82 game season. He's tired, he's going to hit a wall, if he hasn't already and I don't think we'll see him where we want to him to see him, for about a year or so. I've got complete faith that over time, like any player, he will improve. There's no way I'm throwing the towel in on this guy yet!
My only complaint with the guy is that he tries to tip the rebounds to himself instead of grabbing the ball. Besides that I expected him to have a learning curve. There are several issues he needs to address. - Strength/Conditioning - Getting to know the Rockets system - like rockHEAD said, a little R&R. I am actually glad Rudy is bringing him along slow. I wouldn't be suprised if he has a breakout later in the year after the all-star break. He has the skills/potential to be a very good Center. It's just that everyone is playing him so hard now because of all the hype. Imagine you coming into the NBA with a bullseye on your back, they are gunning to block Yao or dunk on him. Our team has so much potential and a great organization/coach. If Ming is going to make it, Houston is the place for him, we love big men. He hasn't even been on the team a whole month, please have a little patience.
I have never seen a more clueless rookie, period. Forget about his offense. Moochie Norris is a better rebounder. Luc Longley was a better defender. Jim McIlvaine had more court savvy. At this point I would trade Yao for Frederick Weiss if I could...
I think Ming gets lost on the defensive end when the team makes rotations. I don't think he knows who/when/or if to rotate. Consequently he plays defense like he's not sure where he's supposed to be, and is very timid. His timidity may be increased because of foul trouble in the preseason and he's scared to make too many fouls. On offense he'll take some more time to understand everything there too. I think he will learn both the offense and the defense and will eventually live up to our expectations. He does not need more plays run for him. He can't handle the ones that currently go through him. It will only give defenders more chances to steal the ball from him, shove him off the blocks, and possibly demoralize him, and hurt whatever confidence he still holds on to. He doesn't need more minutes. As others have stated he's been playing non-stop. Again more playing time will only lead to him being abused on both ends of the court. That's not good for Ming, and it's not good for the Rockets. I think he just needs time, training, and he will eventually become comfortable with his role, and once that happens it might be wise to give a larger role, and bring him along slowly.
At the present time it looks like Rudy T's attention has been on the Guard oriented Game and Yao Ming is floundering without direction. He would be better starting the Game and playing for only 10mins/gm., during this first half of the season. He could play with our best playmaker and have three set plays to execute in an outside/inside type of set up. He could perfect these plays by All Star Break and could go onto try three more in the second half of the season and play 10mins in the first and 10 mins in the third Qtr.He needs an NBA teacher badly! The rest of the playing time would be enough for the Rox to go on and win Games.
You only post when the Rockets lose, and players do bad. Where were you when Rockets played Toronto and Yao did well. All your posts are negative....you must have a sh*ty life.
In the game against Toronto Yao played 24 minutes and was 7th on the team in rebounds. He made some baskets, but his rebounding, defense and coordination on the court were still terrible. It's not true that I post just negatives. I think Steve Francis is an exceptional player, and yesterday I wrote that he can be compared to MJ in his prime. I think the Rockets owe him apology for not trading the #1 pick for a proven player so that Steve can win now. I owe him apology too, because I was caught in the Yao hype and thought Stevie didn't want him because of selfish reasons. The Rockets also owe him an apology for wasting a mid-first round pick in a deep draft for Dan Langhi Jr.
That sounds pretty reasonable. The only possible problem with it is that Cato might see starter vs. non starter and not total minutes played. So far this season in a traditional lineup Cato deserves to be the starter. I do see what your saying, and if it was handled your way, Cato would get the same amount or more minutes than he is now, so it could possibly work.
Sounds to me like you're a Steve Francis fan, not a Rocket fan. Basketball is a TEAM sport. That seems to be something the you and Stevie just can't grasp. Comparing Francis to MJ in his prime is a complete joke. MJ has more basketball smarts in his shoestrings than Stevie does right now. So let me get this straight. You claim you don't always post negatives and start your arguement with a negative about the 24 min's Yao played. Then you give an example of a positive post, but end it by saying that the Rockets owe Steve an apology. Hmmmm...... Do you see a pattern?
Why do you keep saying wait until Sunday we play the Warriors right? I am not about to compare the Rox's to the warriors. That game should be a given.... If I am wrong about who we play, please accept my apologys....
im sorry yall but yao ming has some explaining to do. i mean jerome james really took it to yao ming last night. he was really impressive in that game against us. how many dunks will yao miss????? hes freaking 7-6. and he missed another dunk last night!!!!!! and damn man how can we see how yao ming plays when the rockets teammates dont ever pass him the damn ball???
