I need to kick this, and fast, because it's driving me absolutely insane.

On Friday, I went swimming for 2 hours and somehow walked away relatively burned. Saturday rolls around, and I went swimming again, this time wearing sunblock of like spf 28 or something, to no avail. I got burned even worse. Since then, I've been itching like crazy. It sucks so bad; can't sleep, can't lay, uncomfortable, general annoying itching and it's driving me insane. I need something to cure this...and quickly. Somebody please help me out...

    Thanks in advance.

It itches like a mother when the burned skin starts drying and shrinking. Try a lotion or mineral oil every 2-4 hours to minimize it.

Like Invisible Fan said, try to prevent the skin from drying, use lotion.
When i was young i always got terrible sunburns, it itches terrible. Just remember in a couple of days you do not feel a thing. Good Luck

Yep, that's what I do.. I say away from the Aloe Vera stuff too because it feels good when it's first on, but then I feels like it makes my skin more dry in the long run.. I just use the lotion every few hours and it works well, but I use it right after I get out of sun not after it starts hurting after that it could be to late for the lotion, you may want to try something else..

I love the feeling of a really bad sunburn and a hot shower.. OH HOW GOOD THAT FEELS!! ;)

Thanks for the input. I just went and rubbed some regular lotion on it. I hadn't even thought about that, but now it sounds like a good idea. My skin seems to feel less irritated, just from the lotion...Maybe I can sleep now.

This is gonna sound really weird:

I have used mental training to dramatically reduce itching in my life.

Itching occurs when nerves at skin level sense irritiation and then send impulses to your brain that it's itching and needs scratching.

When I started to itch (from sunburn or from a mosquito bite), I would stare at the affected area of my skin (if it was my back, I would close my eyes and imagine my back) and I would focus on the itching sensation. I would imagine a 'cutoff' point between that area of my body and my brain, and I wouldn't allow the nerves to send the itching sensation to my brain. I would remain very still. After doing this for a few times (didn't take long at all), I no longer feel uncontrollable itching. I still feel mosquito bites, or sunburn, and it itches a little, but not uncontrollably.

If you are desperately in need of relief, sitting in a cool bath will help temporarily. Once you get out, though, drying becomes an issue again and you'll have to lotion to avoid drying.

if you know you are going to peel... exercise or do anything to sweat. make it bubble up. dont peel the parts that havent bubbled though, that skin is too new and will dry out quick.

its painful but always preferred a few hours of pain over days of aggravation.
you can also take a hot shower to take the heat out of the sunburn. also painful.
