STEIN_LINE_HQMarc Stein CLE exception expires July 11 under current CBA. But we'll be in midst of lockout then, so Cavs motivated to keep looking for deals tonight 8 minutes ago STEIN_LINE_HQMarc Stein No deal imminent at last report but CLE preference is using it now since no one knows if such exceptions will even exist in next labor pact 14 minutes ago STEIN_LINE_HQMarc Stein Closest thing to good news heard today: Cavs still very open to making another trade before midnight using their $14.6M trade exception Scola's probably a little too old for them to be interested... But doing a trade with them would be one way to clear up the roster. Insert Name for lotto protected 2012 pick?
I don't see a fit with the rockets. We would need to have a solid player with a slightly expensive contract. The only player that comes close to that is Scola, and Luis for draft picks isn't a fair trade. We also don't have a big luxury tax problem, so it's not costing us to do nothing.
Good point, why don't we trade Thabeet and maybe even TWill for a conditional 2017 second round pick, so that we have major room to go after a free agent center, and still resign Hayes.
Well the owner said the cavs will win it all before the heat will so they've gotta get a move on it! A lotto protected pick (could be from Sac) doesn't have to be directly related from their performance. Also, I think they have the Heat picks too. You can't be like Kahn and stockpile rookies. You need some young vets (23-27yr. old range) guys who can help restore a winning mentality to the team. Would you trade Hill to Cavs for Heat's 2012 1st rounder?
I think Scola is a tad old for them. I think they are looking to move Varajeo which would make me think they would not want Scola then. Hill on the other hand can take some of the mins that Tristan Thompson will not play and fills whatever they lost in Hickson. Maybe they'd want T-Will? Removing 1 player from the team and adding a pick for next year - balances out the roster, adds another asset, and allows us to make better trade offers.
Cavs traded Hickson JJ Hickson for Casspi completed http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=6722764
How is casspi any different than bud? Both are no defense playing gunners, sure casspit is slightly better but being a first rounder is paid much more
Ideally Cleveland would love to move Baron Davis for about $14 million worth of contracts. That way they could have a fresh TPE in case those are allowed under the new CBA. Barring that, they would trade Jamison for the same type deal and get a fresh TPE from a trade for Jamison as long as they didn't take back more than the TPE they currently have. So, with that in mind, Thabeet, Hill, and Flynn for Jamison and the rights to swap first round picks in 2012 would be a pretty nice deal.
That's a pretty good suggestion. The Cavs would have to cut some guys and would have a major logjam at PG. But if they could unload Baron Davis on someone - they would be a very intriguing team. How would the right to swap work if NJ has our lotto protected pick? Maybe we can use the Knicks pick instead. Regardless, that would clear up a lot of logjam. We could resign Chuck, Yao, and see what Cousin has. If they keep Hill and Thabeet, we could pick up Semih or Hollins. We'd be in great shape for Dwight, CP3, Deron too! Monte, Parsons, Patterson, and Morris would get some decent PT - boosting value, determining their abilities.

Good! We need more trades to digest during these dark times. Hopefully we can make a beneficial deal.
I would not be surprised one bit if some combination of Thabeet, Hill, Scola, Flynn, or Dragic is moved tonight.
