Have any of y'all read this yet?

    http://thesacklunchblog.com/2011/06...r-from-a-concerned-fan-at-the-gold-cup-final/

What do you US fans and Mexican fans think? I just fail to understand how a US-Mexico match(On par imho with other great hate-filled national team rivalries in terms of distaste both sides have for the opponent) wouldn't be properly "policed".

That is terrible, bad job by the stadium folks to not provide security in our own country.

I suggest at the next Gold Cup final we raise the ticket prices to keep out the rabble, maybe also do a check for illegal aliens, could get a lot of folks in the country out of here in one go....

^ WTH. - ignore

    Anyway...

That's terrible, ferrari77. I know we have fights and the rivalry is bad... but that crap wouldn't happen in Houston. There's a lot of animosity between U.S. and Mexico fans, but... dang, I know there's lots more security and friendliness around our stadiums. We don't even get pat-downs at Dynamo games. I hope they don't start doing that, either.

Stadium personnel needs to have lots more security around the perimeter of the stadium, which clearly wasn't secured enough according to this dude.

I hate seeing opposing team fans at Minute Maid, and I know damn sure there were more CUBS fans than Astros fans at the last game I went. What's my point? As sad and one-sided as it might sound, one of the things USA fans can do is buy more tickets... and just outnumber us Mexican fans. But with the sort of results their team gives, I know it won't happen anytime soon.

I know it's not, but to me it sounds funny how he continues to say "Twitter this" and "twitter that"... dude, sounds so... I don't know... like it doesn't get taken seriously... why not post it somewhere with more substance and credibility... like in a newspaper or a TV show? It would have more weight and probably even USSOCCER.com takes notice and calls the Rose Bowl out for lack of security around it.

Just as a change of pace, though... also, I guarantee a certain someone in this forum wouldn't be saying all the stuff he's saying in this thread to just ME in an environment like that one to unknown people. I bet you anything that the post above would never be said out loud in a crowd of Mexican soccer fans. He just likes to incite people and infuriate... and would probably deserve something worse than what the dude in the story got.

I went to a MEX-USA match here at Reliant a few years back, and everything was great from my experience.

I even wore my US jersey with a Mexico scarf around my neck...

Here's another account of the game.

Anytime there are fans from different teams there will be some assholes and some people that are perfectly nice. I'm pretty sure somewhere there's a Mexican fan that had to put up with a USA fan spewing hate like DD is doing in this thread. And the people running things should have known this and taken steps to make sure things like this didn't happen. I've seen first hand how incompetent security is at games, so this isn't really surprising.

I was at the match and everything the AO guy said was true. I was in the supprters section smack in the middle of it. I do find the bit about being "hit" by the blowup doll laughable though - that thing was being thrown around the supporters section like a beachball and everyone was laughing about. Find it hard to believe that anyone was offended by it. Anyway, here's my own take.

    The good:

Both groups of fans were pretty cool before the match. A few of the guys were a bit "inappropriate" towards the women we were with while we were walking through the tailgate area to our party spot but nothing too bad. The girls weren't wallflowers and were talking **** back so everyone was kind of laughing about it.

If anything, Mexico fans were going out of their way to be cool during the tailgating. Hugging & high-fiving us, telling us it was badass that we were there and not scared to support our team, sharing food & alcohol with us, taking pics with us and just generally being cool as ****. Hell, we had a few guys even tell us to let them know if anyone ****ed with us.

The match and supporters section experience, for about the first 10-20 minutes anyway, was intense and rivaled any live sporting event I have ever seen. And the Rose Bowl open air atmosphere was amazing.

The bad (Besides the crap way our team played and was coached after the first 20 minutes):

As soon as we scored our first goal, it became less about enjoying the match than about watching the surrounding stands and trying to protect ourselves and each other from the various crap the Mexico fans were hurling at us. I know it wasn't by any means all, most or even a majority of them, but as a collective whole, Mexico fans are the most classless, horrible "group" of fans I have ever experienced. I have a pic of us celebrating after the first goal and the air above us is already full of incoming missiles, beer, pissbombs, etc. We score they throw crap. They score, they throw crap. Dirtbags. Got even uglier after the match.

I also did not understand the logic behind the support from most of them that I met. Most were born here, yet would say things like they were "Mexican first" or that even their own kids would always support Mexico over the U.S. As someone who was born here but comes from an immigrant family this blew my mind. They were also dogging any hispanic-looking folks wearing US gear as traitors... WTF? They were born here!

Now for the Rose Bowl and Swoly's comments. He's right. This would never happen in Reliant. But this was SoCal and the cops were more concerned about offending the bottle-throwers' cultural sensitivities than doing their job. Hell, we watched them watch a massive brawl take its course rather than stop the gang beatdown that was going on in one section. The Rose Bowl security team's pussiness + California pussiness + CONCACAF desire to sell its soul for Hispanic support was as much to blame as the Mexican version of hooligans were.

Okay, long winded match review over.

Wait, one more thing - please get rid of Bob Bradley & Bornstein from this team.

What is wrong with doing a check on the legality of folks going to the game.

If you are legally in the country, no worries, nothing wrong with a check, right?

Shut the **** up man. Seriously, just because we have some insanely stupid fans doesn't mean we have to check their papers.

    Seriously, dude?

I had bottles thrown at my head by Mexico fans and I think your statement makes you a bigger ass than they were, collectively.

Really? So, for you if those guys throwing the bottle were in the country illegally, that would be ok for you.

Look, if the folks are here legally, no worries, but if they are here illegally, ship them back to Mexico where they belong.

So at any game where someone is (somehow) perceived to be of foreign citizenship they (somehow) get profiled and singled out for a papers check, Nazi style?

Or do we all present our papers with our ticket. Nothing like having a ticket taker also analyze a birth certificate for genuineness!

Nah, much more simple than that, in order to get the ticket you have to show your drivers license or other form of identification.

I can't believe that folks here would be ok with illegal aliens in our country causing a problem.

If folks are here legally, great...if not...ship em back....

Based on the insanity of your last few posts, I'm going to assume that you are drunk or that someone has taken over your account.

I don't understand what classless bottle throwing soccer fans have to do with Nazi style citizenship checks at sporting events, but thanks for derailing this thread straight into D&D, idiot.

How about you take your thoughts to D&D?? For someone that is always b****ing about how this board can improve, you sure don't help it when you post irrelevant **** in the wrong forums. Pinche pendejo.

True, but I would also ship out all the dropouts in our country too.

I want to improve the forums and I want to improve this country, if there are illegal aliens and we can use a soccer match to identify them and ship them back to where they belong....good for our country overall.
