As long as we win, why does it really matter?

Yeah, but we won't be in the top 10 in assists. If we win 55 games I don't really care how we finish in any of the statistical catagories.

Because we want to see a complete Game! with Griffin and Yao Ming getting their chances to be serious contributors to the Game.We dont want to see the Francis Mobes Show! We do want Francis and Mobley to be great on the Team but not to hinder the development of Griffin and Yao Ming! The Rox only won it all last time when Hakeems assists went up and he trusted the players on the Team! All this talk is realy useless considering that Rudy hasn't had the full Team on the Court yet! Give them 15-20 Games then make the judgements.

    TheReasonSF3 -

IMHO - if the goal is the playoffs, one on one play will not get the job done. Most of the playoff caliber teams that are low in this category have a low post presence or great 3 point shooting (or both)...SAS, LAL, SAC, DAL, PHI, BOS...

Well, we play 82 games in the season. We have completed 3 and have won 66% of the games played with a league low number of assists.

I agree that it would present a difficult situation to continue to win with such a low assists number but the bottom line is wins and losses.

To win , you must score more points than the other team whether that is off of a offensive rebound, pass, off the dribble, or excellent defense.

We have instituted a new offense and new offensive players. It will take some time and the assists numbers will even out over the long haul.

Besides, Seattle may be number 1 in assists currently but they will cool off just like every else does. No matter how many assists they have , they will lose their fair share of games.

If we are somewhere in the average in assist...I think we'll be pretty damn good with our talent.

I have seen ming open under the basket way too many times while francis or steve shoot a low percentage shot. I think francis doesnt like the center of attention being swayed away from him.

    Question:

What happened to '...we need to have patience with Yao, he won't develop over-night, we shouldn't expect much scoring from Yao at first,...' etc.?

When did it become '...Ming won't ever develop because he's not getting the ball, he needs shots and he needs them NOW!!, Houston isn't the place for him to be...', 'cause I didn't see that memo.

    Inquiring minds want to know.

I think we all expected Ming to develop slowly and maybe get about 6 to 9 shots a game but right now he will be lucky if gets that many touches and this is why people are frustrated. Mind doesnt even get the chance to pass to the open man because he doesnt get the ball.

I really hate these kinds of judgments on a person without you knowing anything...sounds like the tabloids in here sometimes..

I think its just a bad habit looking to shoot first and pass second and not jealousy...

Whats so low about 50% and 45%. I agree Yao needs more touches but I'm tired of this Cat and Francis bashing. They are winning games right now and that is all that matters. Come back and b**** when they lose 2 in a row.

Yes, we should wait and see how things develop. Some of us are predicting the Rox fate too early, because there is time for them to change. I am mindfull that the Rox have 2 wins, but they were against down and out teams. Tonight's competition should be a good gauge of where they are at. Let's just wait and see.

When Rice, KT, and Taylor are back, the assists will dramatically increase. I promise;)

Funny you mention the Sonics being #1 in assists. Let me give you guys my perception here for whatever its worth.

I watched part of the Sonics-Warriors game (first half) last Friday. Gary Payton was firing away right out of the gate. He was hot early and he kept shooting. I think he was something like 5-7 in the first Q (I could be wrong on the time frame). I thought to myself, "Man, that should set the tone of the game. The PG is shooting like crazy." If you think Francis is shooting too much, you should see Payton in that 1st Q.

But lo and behold! Look at the boxscore: Payton was 9-19 for 26 pts, and 10 assists:eek:! The whole Seattle team shot 45% and have a total of 27 assists that night and won 106-93.

    Go figure.

It's easy to blame it on Francis for our assist problem. But I suspect it's not that simple.

I promise too. The assists will go up. We will be fine. KT played in the last game, but he wasn't really involved. Once he gets involved in our O, and when Rice and Mo are back, our assists numbers will rise pretty quick.

I don't worry about Ming's points. I watched the first Q of last game. (then the connection was down).Steve did pass him a few balls.

A bball expert of China said before Yao Ming joined Rockets, "He has been used to this no-ball-feeding situation. When he was in Shanghai, the guards always held the ball to the last second and then pass it to him. In Chinese NT, no body feed him ball. 'Do you need the ball? Grab it by yourself. You are 7-6.' Now he will join Rockets, which is a guard-oriented team. I don't think he can have many touches in the game. But I think he can fit into their system. The situation is similar (with when he was in China)."

Yao Ming said in a few interviews that he will try to improve his defence and rebound. I think this is the best way he contributes to Rockets now. Rockets has some super shooters. Now it needs the balance on defence. I hope Ming's stats on rebound and block can be up soon.

No direct quotes, ChenZhen, just relaying the sentiments made by several of Yao's "fans", particularly those in China.

In fact, I forgot who wrote this, but I was under the impression that the powers that be in China were really indifferent about Yao starting, and felt that it would be in his best interest to be brought along slowly, up to and including coming off the bench.

Now the "sentiment" is that Yao needs to get the ball or he won't develop, eventhough it's pretty obvious that he doesn't quite have a handle on the offense (he did look much better in the Toronto game, however).

In fact, the Rockets actually broke away from their offense\movement in order to get Yao involved.

But Yao isn't going to develop in Houston.

    RIIIIGGGHHHTTTT!!!
