I dont think you can call taking a chance on him a mistake even if he does absolutely nothing - This team has nothing to lose and everything to gain in taking him , the draft is a crap shoot .... Kobe was the #13 pick Karl Malone also a #13 , Stockton #16 .... Lots of great players have been taken outside the lottery , lots of busts have been taken in the lottery - See Kwame Brown.
^Let's not forget our resident scorer was picked lower than Dmo, can we really say Martin isn't great at what he does? (ie put the ball in the hoop.) I think Dmo could be the true steal of the draft, and I'm very excited about what happens with his development. Give him to Hakeem to further develop that post game and teach him some D, throw him in a gym and pump him full of protein and see if we can't get the "White Olajuwon" out of this kid
KG was a beast, who needed refinement and experience. McHale guided him. Monty is no KG,and no coach can turn him into one. It's all up to him if he wants to work hard, otherwise he may end up being another David Andersen.
People say he's too week or soft to play center but I think in a few years we'll have a starting front court of Morris-Patterson-Motiejunas and I think it could be a dang good one! Hit the waights Motie!!
If he becomes a skilled PF like the (perhaps unfair) comparisons of Dirk or Gasol-lite, Mchale teaches him defense and rebounding, or even if he never develops and stays soft and provides offense off the bench (what Brad Miller was supposed to do) at the PF and center positions, either way it won't be a mistake to me. If we keep expectations low, and get a defensive center next to him it might be a steal at 20.
He looks up to Luis Scola, says in this video. <iframe width="560" height="349" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/3B6Vs0sqfww" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
He's the 20th pick. Nothing is expected of 20th picks, he can't be a mistake unless he does something egregious off the court.
Yeah he definitely looks like his a big fan of Luis.. http://www.myfoxhouston.com/dpp/spo...oin-rockets-and-play-with-scola#ixzz1QE81MuNU Having to play with his child hood hero should really help with his development. Will probably absorb everything he has to say like a sponge.
Let's hope he absorbs Scola's maturity and "leave it all out on the court" mentality, particularly since there's a lot of questions about his drive. And reading the article about his man-crush just made me think of this: <iframe width="480" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/gwl4H8iQU4g" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
