I've heard several commentators say that Donuts is projected as a power forward. I can see why, since his outside game lends itself to the "stretch 4" position. But is there some other reason in particular that this guy can't play center? In those workout vids, he looks big enough to me. I realize his rebounding numbers aren't great, but then they wouldn't be if they had this guy out on the perimeter most of the time. Until we shore up the position, it seems pretty likely he'll at least get a look at the 5.

the league is trying to push a pf/c hybrid. The old, slow banger centers are going to foul out because they cant park in the lane and dont have quick reactions to cutters.

that's why most people coveted biyombo because he's 6' 9", but he has a ridiculus wingspan (regardless of his age).

DM will be along the new breed of centers. hopefully he develops a decent presence around the rim. Pau and Dirk needed time to learn about positioning, and now they are servicable around the basket.

I liked what I saw in the first video better. I understand those are highlights, but he seemed more fluid and natural on the perimeter.

I did like the last move of the second video though, shows that bulking up has definitely helped in some respects.

Probably because he is considered a very soft power forward in Europe.

Well, he did look pretty soft in those Lithuanian highlights and that Nike Summit footage. Young and skinny as hell. He doesn't look so skinny anymore. Was he really adding that kind of bulk to shoot threes? Scola's pretty damn soft himself, but he can mix it up inside. We'll just have to teach this guy how to take a charge. :p

I know. BS or Pau. Pau doesn't have this guys jockstrap at this age. I think he's more like a mobile version of Yao. Remember when JVG said imagine Yao 6" shorter with more lateral quickness. We have him!!!!

Donuts needs to learn to shut up and work before running his mouth. His first press conference reminds me of a mix between Joey Dorsey and Terrence Williams. This guy has "bad attitude" written all over him.

It's encouraging to see that he isn't a stick, that he can move and seems to have a decent skill set. The way I see it, if you are a legit 7 footer with a decent skill set (everyone seems to agree it's there) and you can learn from McHale, Scola and Dawson, then the only thing stopping you from getting better is you.

I tend to prefer less "talkative" players, but I actually like that D-Mo has an edge to his personality. Could help him to shake the "soft Euro" stigma.

Plus, it's usually much harder to improve a lack of confidence than it is to temper an abundance of it. The guy is only 20 and I imagine he'll realize when to reign that stuff in.

Geez, i guy gets a little cocky and now might have attitude issues. Guess what, we could use one or two douchebags on the team. Every successful team has at least one that contributes to their success.

Well if the attitude implies he isn't a soft player, having a physical version of Bargnani capable of hitting the long shot doesn't sound so bad.

He actually looks incredibly coordinated, light years ahead of Thabeet. Hakeem needs some time with this guy.

He was considered a very soft power forward in Europe. More soft even than Andersen. That is on the court. Off the court he was always considered a punk.

You nail it. Monte is a bb player with significant skills who is still learning and polishing his trade. Thabeet is a very tall man trying to play bb.
