[Chron] Finch named assistant coach, additonal interviews in July

    The Finch news is expected.

    In an earlier response to blog readers, Feigen mentioned that the assistant coach interviews will resume in July partly because one or more of the candidates are under contract with another team until July 1 (and, presumably, the team(s) did not grant permission for Rockets to interview them).

    My guess the person to whom Feigen referred may be Sam Cassel. Morey said in a radio interview that they were impressed with Sam when he interviewed for the head job, and wanted him for an assistant but the Wiz won't let them interview Sam for the assistant job. Not sure if Sam has multi-year contract or one that expires on July 1st.

    I like sam, he does alot of hands on training,nice work ethic, and can handle the developing pg aspect.

    FYI : I just looked online and it seemed Sam signed a contract with the Wizards in May of 2009. The terms apparently weren't disclosed.

    So the wide and deep approach for coaching search basically also included the search for finding potential assistant coaches.
