EDIT: Thanks to jsmee2000 for posting this video in which a 76er's scout refers to Motiejunas as "over 7 feet barefoot", which means he's likely 7'2" at minimum by NBA standards (measurements taken with shoes).

    -----------------------

I've read most of the discussion regarding Motiejunas, and it seems that the overwhelming majority of posters are misinformed about Motiejunas' physical stature. That's because almost all of his videos and pictures that you'll find online are from when he was 15 to 19 years old, and thin as a rail.

However, he has added a considerable amount of muscle to his frame in the past year as his body matures, and now looks much more like an NBA PF/C than SF/PF. He's still no body builder, but the change is substantial nonetheless. See the difference for yourself in the videos below.

2009 Nike Hoop Summit... (by the way, he mentions Scola as his favorite player in this video)

    Last week...

    <object width="640" height="390"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/G5Tblw5WggQ?version=3&amp;hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/G5Tblw5WggQ?version=3&amp;hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="640" height="390" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true"></embed></object>

I to stay away from cluttering the GARM with threads, but I felt like this was one that would be particularly useful since I've seen so many comments about Donatas' need to "bulk up". Mods, please merge if you deem it appropriate.

IIRC, Chad Ford said he added about 10-15 pounds of muscle; Draftexpress thought he might have added too much muscle for his style of play.

That second video of him doesn't look very promising. Though I do agree with you that he's put on some muscle. Looks like he lost some endurance, but this video seems like it was filmed towards the end of his workout and if that's the case, that would explain why he takes his time catching his breath and putting his hands on his knees. Overall, I like his skill set. With the skills he displayed in the first video, along with the increase in his size and bulk in the second video, you have to like what you see. Only time will tell if he will live up to his potential.

He's like a Gasol hybrid type player with a perimeter game.

I wouldn't worry about that, as I assume he had been going for a while. His shirt is already soaked when the video starts.

In before "That's what she said"

    jk

All jokes aside. I was real high on this guy last year when a lot of mock drafts had him in the 5-10 range. I remember watching that 1st video and seeing how fluid he looked with the ball. Plus remembered mentioning before, in a past thread that his favorite player is Scola. Seeing the latest workout vids of him from a few day ago definitely shows how much he 'bulked' up. Very happy we're able to grab him with the 20th pick.

Liked the videos. Good footwork. Showed decent ability to gauge what do based on defender post position. His spin in the post looked fast. Biggest thing I saw was that his release on his hook shot is way too low. Needs to be raised.

Also wished to get a better idea of his hands. With Yao we always hated that he often had somewhat of stone hands that were not the strongest to hold on to the ball. Hopefully he doesn't have that problem.

great he gets to learn from his favorite player. hopefully that gives him that extra motivation because one knock on him was his lack of motivation and toughness.

Maybe we should get him the same strength coach Yao had? That Falsone dude? Yao became much bigger over time.

Edit: Also, any chance he develops into a Biedrins type of player (minus the injuries)? He looks a bit like him, body type - wise.

They seem to be very different style players. Pre-injury Biedrins was a borderline elite rebounder (9+ rebounds in under 30 mins), but horrendously limited in range -- just above 50% career FT shooter.

It would seem to me his upside is more likely to be a Bargnani -- if a guy drafted in the 20s in a weak draft develops into a 20 ppg scorer, that's a home run.
