Every deadline it's the same thing Morey is desperately trying to make a big deal before the draft. Morey is desperately trying to make a big deal before the trade deadline. Morey is desperately trying to make a deal to shore up the middle. Always the bridesmaid never the bride. Please Morey break that rep this season. Begging is not a good tactic in negotiating. Get something done!
Why is working hard and examining all potential avenues seen as desperation? If I was an employer, I'd higher anybody of Morey's work ethic.
des·per·a·tion/ˌdespəˈrāSHən/ Noun: A state of despair, typically one that results in rash or extreme behavior. I don't recall Morey ever being rash or having an extreme behavior. PM me your dictionary sources OMR so I can gain some new knowledge
You lost a lot credibility after that moronic Scola for Lebron trade idea. I can't take anything you talk about seriously.
Come on! Morey is doing what any competent GM would do. Trying to make his team better any way that he can. Thats it.
I think every GM is working hard to make a move, especially with the lockout on the horizon. That being said, I think there is a little extra pressure on Morey to get a big man. Just not a lot of options in FAgency or trade...Chandler isn't going anywhere or he will get badly overpaid, DeAndre Jordan and Gasol won't be let go easily. He knows we can't have Chuck starting at center again and so he is trying everything he can to get the best big on the board.
Sorry OMR, I don't see what's wrong with what Morey's doing. It costs next to nothing to pick up the phone and talk to some other team and make an offer that you think benefit your team. Most of the time, these don't come to fruition, especially if you are not in the habit of overpaying even for what you want. So what if the proposal gets rejected? You don't lose a draft pick or get fined $1 million for it so you might as well ask. Seems the major drawback is that the "rejection" seems to hurt some fans' feelings, but does that affect the larger scheme of things? As for the "desperate man rep".... I'm pretty sure every team is desperate to acquire talent and try to do what they can to compete. Not sure what makes Morey different from other GMs other than the fact that the other guys maybe don't work as hard?
It doesn't make a difference to me. I'd rather have a front office that chooses to not to leave stones unturned. The Rockets aren't in a position where they can just sit back and expect a star to fall in their lap. They have to be aggressive and pursue all options.
I love how brave you are on these boards. Let me be very clear I am not responding to this specific post. I am responding to you. I do not like you. I don't like you one bit. You think you are being brave because everytime I post something you can come behind it and make some snide remark. You are the lowest of lowest of weasels. I can assure you you would never do that to my face. I am not threatening you and I am not calling you out to meet me somewhere like some childish fool. But I hate people who act brave when I know they would never do it in my face. We will never meet. So continue hiding behind your keyboard and making all your snide personal remarks. Just know I think you are faceless chicken and I don't like you. I have nothing else more to say. I hope the monitors can see I restrained myself and not ban me. I didn't use any foul language and I am not calling him out but he has been doing this for a while. And we all know people who do that kind of stuff get their you know what whipped in the real world but this is not that place and I am not trying to that at all. I have no intention of ever trying to find out who he is and we will never meet so just saying I don't like him is the extent of my post.
You do know there is a reason why your previous thread was locked, right? Quit taking things so personally. If you going to start a thread that people consider a totally ridiculous troll thread (like your prior thread), then be ready for people to take shots at your posts. Back to this thread... What makes you think Morey is begging?
Maybe you should take a good hard look at your own posting history, towards me and others. Then you might realize why I have no problem calling out piece of trash threads like this, especially coming from you. And please, stop taking yourself so seriously. No one else sure as hell does. If you want me to stop poking fun of you, here's a hint: Stop being stupid.
I don't see what's wrong with making it blatantly obvious every year that you want to be engaged in trade discussions. It's beneficial on several levels - you might get called out of the blue with trade proposals or to "match" other trade offers - it gives you insight into other team's player acquisition strategy - it gives you insight into value around the league for certain players - you might be asked to help facilitate a larger trade(and able to pick up cash/picks for the trouble) -it establishes a market for some players so you can pick and choose from multiple offers ...if your only objection is that Morey looks desperate, I can't see how that impacts the Rockets business negatively if he doesn't appear to be making any actual desperate trades that are hurting the franchise. Maybe Morey gets lowballed a little more because of the "desperate man" but would that conversation even happen if Morey weren't putting our name out there in every trade rumor and isn't the most fundamental part of being a good negotiator in an open market first to entice someone to enter into a negotiation? If Morey gives the impression he is willing to trade anyone on the roster for cheap, that opens up a lot of potential suitors and opportunities that otherwise might not be there. On balance, I can't see a harm in it. The players just need to understand it's part of the game(and I think most vets understand that).
The Rockets rep around the league isn't of a team that can be low-balled. If anything, they are viewed as valuing their own players too much and being too demanding in trades. That's why the Rockets don't actually make many trades relative to the frequency of the trade talk they engage in, and its why when they do make trades it almost always appears they got a good deal. They are probably too selective, IMO.
