...I hope Morey takes a flyer on this kid, and pulls one of his classic low-risk, high-reward trades. Given the right situation, I think he may turn out to be the best value pick of the draft. He's got all the talent, just needs some guidance. Get him some work with Kevin McHale and other Rockets people who are great with bigs, and I think we have a steal.

He seems like the prototypical SA pick in the first.

But based on the Rox history, I think Les would buy him in the second.

He only averaged 10 ppg playing against much smaller Japanese players so I have my doubts about his ability to play in the NBA. This kid has bust written all over him.

Late 1st and 2nd rd picks are never bust, they just don't work out. I think most teams share your concern which is why mid 20s will probably be where he goes.

Honestly, is this guy any better than Thabeet or Hill? I get that fans like unknown prospects with measurables. But we have those players on our team already.

I don't mind taking him with a 2nd rounder with the intention of playing him on the Vipers. But I doubt he last til the 38th pick(?) where we actually draft in the 2nd round. Besides, I'd rather go for a wing player or tweener with that pick, those that don't fit the NBA mold but can carve a niche as a rotation player.

If we end up keeping the 23rd pick, they should take him there. He won't last till 38.

QFT. This is exactly the kind of player we should be swinging for. Star potential at the hardest position to fill. There's nobody else I can see being available at 23 that offers this kind of potential.

Exactly, we have enough role players and a good bench. Anything past the 14th pick is wasted if it isn't on potential or overseas players.

Given his stock has risen alot since the Draft Combine it is expected that he will end up as an early 2nd round pick somewhere around where the Rockets will be anyways in the 2nd round.

I think personally that he is worth a 2nd round pick, but if you understand the Rockets drafting history I would be shocked if there wasn't another player on the board that they rank higher in the early 2nd round.

From what I saw in his workouts, this kid is not ready physically to play the center position. In the NBA he would be lucky to see time at the pf spot given the amount of depth and talent.

Think Hasaan Whiteside with a decent jump shot. He is long and athletic with a serviceable jumpshot, but it doesn't look like he has put in the time in the gym necessary to beat out even the worst of NBA centers for a rebound in a game. He is very physically undeveloped and has very little experience against high level competition.

Nothing about this kid seems like a Morey pick.

With the amount of work he needs in the D-League, it could look like a decent project to take and stash with Rio Grande, but there are only so many roster spots this team can take, and they might go for a PG instead. Given the Rockets injury history, that might be a more likely pick if the right guy is available.

However, there might be something we dont see that Rockets scouts have seen. But from what we know about the way the Rockets scout, I would be shocked if they took him in the early 2nd round.

He won't be in the second round guys. Teams like The Spurs, Celtics and Heat have nothing to lose and are willing to gamble on a headcase.

If Morey takes him at 23 I will be a happy camper.

Yes, take him at 23. Another reason to not give away the 23rd unless we get a sure thing by mvoing up.
