BEIJING (AP)—Yao Ming(notes) is staying tightlipped about his future once his contract with the Houston Rockets expires at the end of this month.

The oft-injured center declined to answer questions about his plans at an appearance on behalf of the Special Olympics on Sunday, saying he didn’t want to discuss anything not related to his work with the charity.

He said previously he hoped to stay with Houston, now coached by Kevin McHale.

The 7-foot-6 All-Star has said doctors tell him his surgically repaired left ankle is healing properly, but that he won’t know before later this summer if he will be able to play next season. He becomes a restricted free agent July 1.

Injuries have limited Yao to just five games since the 2008-09 season.

He's actually going to announce his career in the wheel chair basketball circuit.

What a waste of an article. "Yao hasn't spoken to reporters about returning after previously indicating he'd like to return to Houston"

Yao will more than likely retire. Especially given the optimism of his return from surgery/rehab this past season only to have is body break....again, along with the hopes of Houston fans.

I would love it if he could give us 15 mins a game at the vet. min. though.

In the playoffs, games are won/lost in the last 5-10 mins. If his body can hold up for that, I will take it. Post him up, he will dunk it, lay it up, j-shot, hook-shot and if he's fouled - he can make his f/ts.

Whatever jersey he ends up wearing, i wish him a speedy recovery and can't wait to see him on the court again.

I hope Rockets will resign him, but I am not optimistic. From the look of it, Rockets is gearing toward dumping salaries+tanking next year so they can rebuild.
