So I think that Stevie is great but he is no pure point gaurd. He can do it don't get me wrong but if either he or the Rox brass want him to play more 2 gaurd I think we should seriously consider getting Jamal Crawford from the bulls. I think Mooch's dribbledribbledribble game sux big time by the way. Crawford is also pretty tall at 6-6 and that will help defensively. And we all know he's not likin playin behind Jay Williams. So if we say trade for him we'd have to extend an offer of starting him soon enough and bringing Cat off the bench as our high scoring 6th man. Now ideas of who we have to give up to get him make this a lot trickier and definitely more painfull. I bet the Bulls would like to get back those messy little 2nd round pics that maybe a 1st round pick that we got for Bryce "still looks like a little kid" Drew. Some other future picks are also possible. Boki is tradeable... maybe. I doubt they want Kenny seeing as they have Fizer. Now I'm a little stumped I know we won't be trading Griffin thats for damn sure. Mo ain't gonna happen for a myriad of reasons. I guess it'll have to be a three way. Alright guys help me out with some menage au trois trade scenarios. PPpppleeaaassee.
The more games we play with Francis as a point guard the less I tend to laugh at ideas like this. It does not matter how many points a point guard is capable of scoring, the fact of the matter is if he averages more turnovers than assists, the Rockets will never reach their full potential. When a fan recognizes the futility of his favorite team trying to succeed with a point guard who turns the ball over more times than he assists his teamates, options like the one MATT recommends seem less and less bizarre; these options must be explored if Steve continues to pour out more turnovers than assists. Look I know the season is much to young to panic and make a move like the one proposed above, but our point guards negative turnover/assist ratio is a major cause for concern.
I agree with Phi83. We are 2-26 without SF, so I am sure that he is doing something right at the point.
Spank you very much for the constructive comments and criticism. I'm glad that you thought about my scenario and responded intelligently instead of having some knee-jerk response that some might react with due to my wild run-on stream of consciousness type diatribe. I know that the BBS is no place for conjecture but I thought I might propose a possible solution to what some see as a problem. That being we have a point gaurd with about a 1/1 assist to turnover ratio and if we play him at the 2(which we are known to do at times seeing as he's an unstoppable scorer first and foremost) right now the only guy to take his place is a dribbling fool with a big ol' afro. So whats your solution or are you just to good to really respond. Also being worse without Steve was never the question I'm only wondering how the Rockets can be at their best here and though I'm not jumping ship on Steve at the point I think that there is probably legitimate concern that Stevie's role as this teams distributor might be taking away from his and the teams effectiveness. But believe me if Stevie wants to stay at the point and if he starts building up his assists and cutting down on the turnovers then it's all good and I'll drop any idea of such a trade as quick as I'd drop Osama off the Brooklyn bridge.
Why replace a 25 ppg scorer in Cat with Crawford? I'm sure that Cat wouldn't like having to back up a player that isn't that good. Steve would probably be pissed that Cat wouldn't play more. Steve is scoring a lot at Pg, and is working the offense pretty well. Crawford hasn't gotten along with Jay Williams, so he definetly wouldn't get along with Steve and Cat.
Is he really a thug I hadn't heard anything like that at all. I just thought he wasn't all that happy that his chance to shine was taken away. As we become a better team I also think it's important for Cat's scoring role to decrease a bit. By the way Steve and Cat are logging a little too many minutes for my tastes. There is no way we should be playing these 2 guys the kind of minutes they've logged at the start of the season. That is not if we want them to have any freshness left for the playoffs when we'll need them the most
He was kicked out of practice because his attitiude was nuts about Williams. He was playing lazy, and made someone sub in for him in a practice game, because he was too pissed to play. Then Cartwright threw him out of the practice facility.
This does not seem to me to be a horrible issue at all. It seems like a young talented guy who's passionate about playing overreacted at losing a starting role. Considering all, if this guy would really play the point and can play it well then he and Stevie would make an AWESOME duo with Steve being a sort of cross between Iverson and Jordan with better rebounding and assists than either. Though with this team he doesn't need to get the scoring title for us to win. Anybody with me?
I'm sorry nobody has provided a thoughtful and proper response to your thread title. Let me try. NO player looks good in our damned pinstripes! Our team wears pajamas, and this is only more frustrating when they sleep-walk like last night.
It's FARTS ricerocket not FART. correct me if I'm wrong FARTS, but it's: Fans Against Rocket Trade Scenarios However, Fans Against Rocket Trades wouldn't be bad either.
Francis had 9 assist last night, how is he not a PG? It's like everytime the Rockets lose people don't even bother to look at the stats they just automatically post "Francis is really a 2-Guard".
I actually like the idea of Steve playing two. He may easily be a top five scorer is he plays two. I also like Jamal Crawford as a player. He is tall and quick and has lots of potentials. However, he is nowhere near a starting caliber point guard right now. And we really don't have anyone to trade for Crawford, unless we give up Cat
Jamal Crwford is no better at "leading" a team the Mobley would be at the PG spot so that is not a good idea. PS: He can't really shoot, or pass the ball particularly well.
