Here's the deal... I have a 96 Ford F-150 and I need to change one of the lower control arm bushings. It looks fairly simple and I want to do it myself. Does anyone now the procedure ???? Thanks in advance S.J.
buy one of those books at Auto Zone. They're cheap, they do a pretty good job of illustrating just about every procedure, and they'll pay for themselves over and over again.
I thought about that, but I plan on selling this truck soon. I didn't want to buy the book just for the one fix. Thanks.
could be the spitzer valve...i suggest 20 weight ball bearings and some antifreeze...preferably prestone...no, make that quaker state. and there's a tremendous buildup of filth and muck on those windows, too. have you checked the bypass line?
S.J., I might be able to help you. Im an ASE certified master mechanic. Depending on the setup of the suspension, it can be more difficult than it sounds. If you have an air compressor and air tools, its going to be about a 2 hour procedure. Your going to have to remove the wheel, knuckle (partially if not completely) and the spring/shock. The problem is, you need a special tool that compresses the spring when you go to put it back in (the bottom of the spring probably sits on top of that control arm). If you are not mechanically inclined, I would strongly suggest paying someone to do it. If all you have his hand tools, its going to be a chore to get that done. You will also need to get a thurst angle alignment done on the suspension after you put everything back together. Also, wherever you have the alignment done, they will probably want to put whats called camber kits in to make sure the alignment takes. Camber kits are usually 20 bucks or so.
