I've updated the Rockets Salary & Contract page to reflect Mobley's contract. For those of you who wanted an html table instead of a jpg I've indulged you as well. I don't like it as much, but you guys said you prefer it, so you get it. Let me know if you like it or if you want the old one back. The link is in the sig below. ------------------ Current Rocket's Salary & Contract Info
Looks much better with the table. The quality does not go down too much, and it's more practical. Anyway, thanks for adding the link to the Space Center ------------------ Nederland 2002 Qualifying Campaign (Damn those penalties!!!) Davo, I liked the page both ways. As long as it has the numbers, it doesn't matter much to me. Two things: (1) You should change the FA year for Mobley; you still have it at 2000 which thankfully isn't true anymore. (2) Don't you want to put one more column on the table to include Mobley's option-year? ------------------ Rockets Draft Obligations Summary http://www.gaffordstudios.cjb.net/
Achebe, The are basically three likely scenarios for Shandon, assuming that he did have some kind of "wink wink" agreement. 1. After this year he is only eligible for an early bird, not full bird, so in order to maximize his money, he could opt-out of the final year of his currrent contract (is that correct terminolgy heypartner) and re-sign a 2 year early bird for the league average of $4.0 - $4.5 Mil. 2. After this year, the "Mid Level" exception increases to the league average salary (same as Early bird) but the advantage is it can be signed for only 1 year. This way Shandon has his cake and can eat it too. He can opt-out of the current contract, sign a new 1 year mid level exception contract and then be eligible for the Powerball Payout, full bird contract the very next year. 3. Fulfill the current contract. I think option 2 is most likely. ------------------ Current Rocket's Salary & Contract Info
Very informative Davo. I for one feel that the salary cap will not go up significantly next year as it has in the past (probably a good assumption). We won't have much salary cap space to go after an impact player up front. They will have to come via a trade or the draft. That being said I think the rockets are already a playoff team, they just need to get some production up front. I also remeber reading when maloney's contract was bought out that the buyout would only count against that year and the next (meaning this upcoming season when it doesn't matter due to Hakeem). Unfortunately I don't remember if I read it at the chronicle web site or clutchcity. Either way who knows if it was correct at that. I have faith that the rockets brass are well in control of improving the team. Les is a great owner. ------------------
Davo, some corrections. Larry Coon finally emailed my back about the FAQ #13 concerning exceptions counting against the cap. His says the trade exceptions doesn't count, agreed it was misleading and has edited the FAQ to clarify the point. Also, the FAQ says signing bonuses count towards the salary cap spread out over the gauranteed years of the contract (ie. not option years). Do we know for a fact that Cuttino didn't get a signing bonus? If he did, at that length of contract, a full 25% bonus could have a significant effect...roughly adding another $1.25m/yr to our team salary. But I have read nowhere that he got a bonus. here's the bonus text: How about signing bonuses? Are they allowed? How do they count against the cap? [This message has been edited by heypartner (edited August 03, 2000).]
Matt Bullard for $4,050,000million in 2001/2002? Is this some kind of a sick joke? ------------------ "I wanna eat his children." [This message has been edited by thacabbage (edited August 03, 2000).]
HP, I think there must be something like that going on, because the paper reported the deal was for $32.2 million, and I calculated his max to be $30.87315 million. Here's my calculation: League average (from the Chronicle): 3.63 108% of average: 3.9204 Raise of 12.5%: .49005 So: 1st Year: 3.9204 2nd Year: 4.41045 3rd Year: 4.9005 4th Year: 5.39055 5th Year: 5.8806 6th Year: 6.37065 Total: 30.87315 The numbers davo has are higher and, I assume, calculated backwards from the 32.2 million. But please, everyone check my math and my assumptions. I'm not sure where the discrepancy is at. ------------------ Rockets Draft Obligations Summary http://www.gaffordstudios.cjb.net/
heypartner, I have revised page to remove the trade exception as per your advice. JuanValdez & heypartner, I'm with you - I can't figure out the exact Salary figures, plus there are conflicting stories in the media about the actual amount - some say $31Mil, some say $32.2Mil. I did mine calculating back from $32.2 using the 12.5% increases, which gives a starting salary of $4.1Mil. I don't know if this is possible - maybe as hp suggests, part of it is signing bonus distributed over the contract?? One possibility is this: NBA Average: $3.63 Mil + $150,000 = $3.78Mil x 108% = $4.08Mil I don't even know if the $150,000 applies but it makes the numbers work. As far as a 25% signing bonus - it is certainly a possibility, and I don't know If we'll ever find out. It could add up to $1.25Mil to each year as hp says, which is significant. Maybe I'll call Cuttino and ask him ------------------ Current Rocket's Salary & Contract Info [This message has been edited by davo (edited August 03, 2000).]
About salary bonuses: I'm sure bonuses are kept very secret. I don't think we will ever know. I seriously doubt it is included in the numbers reported, because that would be less than a 5% bonus. I think the discrepancies simply lie in the continued discrepancies in what the league minimum is. OH -- Forgot to say... Davo as far as I am concerned, use numbers you believe it. Find out what the league minimum is and post that. Clutchcity.net will back you as the official source....cause lord knows reporters will continue to contradict themselves. [This message has been edited by heypartner (edited August 03, 2000).]
Hi guys. Long time lurker, first time poster. This is what I came up with for Mobley's salary for the next 6 years. 1st year: league avg * 1.08 = $3.92 Mil 2nd year: above * 1.125 = $4.41 Mil 3rd year: " = $4.96 Mil 4th year: " = $5.58 Mil 5th year: " = $6.28 Mil 6th year: " = $7.06 Mil Add it all up and you should get $32.2 Mil over the next 6 years. If I messed up my math, I'm sure somebody will point it out. Dwight ------------------
COOL Dwight found the mistake... We caught Feigen in a mistake this time. His $32.2 calculation is using a compounded interest forumula for raises, as Dwight did....or is Dwight actually Feigen (or his source). So, see Davo and Juan were correct. This site Rox!!!! Put up the $31m Davo. The $32.2 used wrong interest calculations. Then strut around the house in your underwear and say you have the most accurate numbers for Rocket's Salary....then maybe your wife will leave you and I'll have a chance.
cabbage, The $4mil+ shown for Bullard next year is the salary cap amount for an unrenounced free agent. Since Bullard is eligible for Bird status when he becomes a free agent, AND his current salary is below the league average, he must count 200% of his previous salary until renounced or re-signed, as per Item 25 of the FAQ. hp, I already strut around my house in my underwear and she hasn't left me yet . We should get Feigen to post his articles here first for proof reading. ------------------ Current Rocket's Salary & Contract Info
Whoops... made the same mistake Feigen did. (no, I'm not Feigen or his source) Glad I could help point it out, though. Dwight ------------------
Davo Thanks for the info... So it looks like if we trade Drew and don't resign Bullard we will have 9 Million in cap space. But that does seem like a big jump in your estimated team salary cap for next year. How do you come up with that number. Anyway if it is less, lets say 38, 39, ... And we add a couple of 1st round picks we will probably only have 5 or 6 mil available... We would need to trade someone like Williams to get enough to sign the likes of Webber or Finley. Other wise we are left with the the second tier players like Mashburn, Mason, Stojakavic, Ceballos, C. Williamson etc... Decent players but not extraordinary... Maybe we should concentrate on that blockbuster trade this summer that Houdeman25 says will happen and forget about cap space. ------------------
Don't forget Anderson will probably want more than the third year of the exception... unless a *wink wink* deal informs him that there is MAX to be had the following (bird right) year. Trading the Rookies and unloading Drew and Bullard should suffice (damn a CAP raise of 3 million this year would have gotten us closer to the 40 though). ------------------ Dubyah: Because the picture on the newspaper. OMR, I haven't put much thought into the next years salary cap number. It will probably be lower, especially since it is tied to Basketball Related Income. Out of interest, as per the CBA FAQ, If the salaries in 99-00 exceeded 55% of of BRI, then the overage is subtracted from the 48.04% in 00-01. The 00-01 salary cap may therefore be less than 48.04% of BRI, but it is guaranteed to be no less than $35.5 million. Which is obviously what happened, since we know that last year players salaries were around 65% of BRI this year. If the same or similar clause applies this year, I would not expect the Salary Cap to increase much at all - I can't see Salaries dropping much from 65% of BRI let alone all the way to 48.04%. ------------------ Current Rocket's Salary & Contract Info
