After all that has happened, it's too bad they just didn't let him play till his foot fell off in that lakers series.

I agree with you DD but this bbs has become a place where it is a plan to lose even before we start. What a poison. I only hope no one from the rockets that has any semblance of pride or optimism reads this.

Once you settle for loser you become loser. That's for the texans not the rockets thank you very much.

Because he loves playing basketball. It's not exactly easy for a guy to stop doing something he loves.

So he is going to retire then?

Because that foot is definitely done.

It's hard to say who gets screwed more. Yao had to play his prime as a Rocket with Tmac with nobody else, not even a backup center who makes more than 3 mil per year.

I meant "what's the point?" from the Rockets perspective.

Hmm.. would anyone oppose if he signed for 2 years at the vets min? Even if he barely plays, I think he can be a good locker room presence and mentor to the younger players on the team.

Apparently, rebuilding teams aren't allowed to have any vets at all.

an additional 2 years will net Yao what? $6Mil at a minimum?

That is incentive alone right there.

Excuse me, did not see this when i posted the above comment.

I agree, the Rockets should move away from the Yao era (as much as I hate that).

In fact, any player over 25 years of age is not allowed in a rebuilding team. ;)

This. There is a chance he is receiving pressure from China to play for the national team and in response he is giving a pessimistic outlook in order to temper expectations of him playing again for his country's team.

It's kind of crazy that they would even consider it a possibility that he could play for them this fall while the majority of fans on this forum feel the exact opposite.

The problem with letting him play 15-20 min a game is that he may play well. Then what do you do? Do you draw a hard line in the sand, no more than 20 minutes ever? You will never know when he is going to go down, but you know that he will. You can't have players on a team like that. If you want to say 15-20 min a game max, no matter how well he does than fine, but we have gone down this road before.
