We had a minature schnauzer growing up, and it was one of the coolest dogs ever. Chill and laid back, smart, tricks, etc.

Name gives homage to his German heritage: HANS

Side note: At one point we considered getting another mini schnauzer and naming him FRANZ....... :D

My dog's name is Noynac, which is Canyon backwards. When I was going to the pound to pick him up, I couldn't think of a good name, so I started reversing the letters of all the cross streets I passed by. When I got to Canyon Creek Drive I knew I had found a winner. :)

My cat's name is Djuna (joo-na). She is named after a female novelist, Djuna Barnes, whose works I admire.

She was a kitten when she wandered into the place I was working 7 yrs ago. She was sopping wet, greasy, covered with fleas. I think she had been washed down a storm drain or something. Anyway, some dogs were harassing her, so I took her home.

She's been the best pet I've ever had. VERY friendly, loves to play, chases rubber bands and brings them back. She's great.

    Our cats:

First one: Gus -- named after Augustus McRae from Lonsome Dove. He was Texas born, and it just seemed right.

Second one: Fluffy -- just seemed appropriate because he was just so . . . fluffy. He could have no other name. Fluffy passed away this August, and he is sorely missed.

Third: Casey -- I found Casey at Strake Jesuit about a month and a half ago, and after a week was able to get him home. He's named after Brother Casey Ferlita, who is a fixture at SJ. One of the greatest guys you'd ever meet -- genuinely cares about everybody there.

Fourth and Fifth: Teddy and Cosmos -- these are two cats my folks adopted from some people in Seattle (it's a long story). These are the names that they were given. Teddy Whitenose and Cosmos.

    We have two cats.

Shadow - Nothing special, she is just a dark cat.

Cat - I originally named him Wink because when he was a kitten he had a really big butthole. So every time he walked away from you it looked like he was winking at you. My wife was horrified at this name so it never stuck. We couldnt ever come up with something else so he became Cat. So now everybody asks, "Why did you name your cat, Cat?" Then I get to tell them the story so she probably should have stuck with Wink.

I had a cat named Scratches once. She scratched me the day we got her, so it was an obvious name to go with.

My parents' dog, which I consider mine as well, is a black and white cocker spaniel named Rex.

I named him, and I chose Rex because that seemed like a classic dog name plus it is Latin for king.

We have a Chinese Crested Dog named Coach. My boy was four at the time and we told him he could name the pup anything he wanted. He named him Coach.

Side note-When I sent him his official AKC papers and all of that crap I 'officially' named him Coach Slocum on a Mobile

I had a Rottweiler named Tiny.
My current cat is named Gary after the meowing snail in Spongebob Squarepants.
I had two Tiger Salamanders named Smaug and Godzilla.
I have two goldfish that were supposed to be food for Godzilla, but Godzilla passed away before he could eat them. Any idea for names on them? I'm leaning towards Din (dinner) and Des (dessert).

I have a black lab. He is named Guinness.

My wife and I are both part Irish, and we love to drink pints of Guinness.

My brother had a stray cat he named Toker. Allegedly when my brother and his friends would "hang out" behind their garage, Toker would show up as soon as they sparked up. Oddly enough, he only showed up when they were burning something shady.

My daughter's name is Hannah. Had she been a boy, his name would have been Sam.

When my wife got pregnant with our 3rd child, I said, "I still like the name Sam."

She said, "If you like the name Sam, go buy a dog and name it Sam."

My wife went out of town that weekend. I bought a miniature beagle. Her name is Sam.

My dog is a Half Lab Half Chow mix with dark black fur. We are big Pixies fans so we named her Black Francis, but we call her Francis or Frankie.
