Is it acceptable for a true Rockets fan to root for Dallas?

Discussion in 'NBA Dish' started by ShutURBiG!, Jun 9, 2011.

?

As a Rockets fan, which team are you rooting for?

  1. The Dallas Mavericks: Dirk and Kidd deserve a ring and Houston still has one more championship.

  2. The Miami Heat: as a Rockets fan it is NEVER okay to root for a rival, ESPECIALLY a division rival.

    22.1%
  3. Neither: not a fan of either team. Rockets all the way.

As a friend told me the other day "alot of people hate on the Mavs here in Houston. Fact is they are jealous, insecure Rockets fans who want to start some sort of "rivalry". There is no rivalry when the other team beats ur tail everytime they meet. Cuban, while a prick, is 10X better than Les Alexander. He spends to win. We got our 2 championships, but that was a different era."

Also, ESPN had a poll before this series started and it asked Who are you rooting for? And 3 choices came up. 1. Dallas wins 2. Miami loses 3. Miami Wins. I lean to the 2nd choice. I love watching Miami lose because I HATE the Heat with a passion. :)

I'm rooting hard for Dallas. I'm rooting against the Heat too, but more I'm rooting for Dallas.

    - They're the underdogs
    - I like everybody on their team. I don't dislike anyone on their team.
    - I like that they have one tough-it-out, hard-nosed, hard-working superstar (who by all rights should be aging beyond his prime but seems to get better by sheer will) surrounded by role players (and one Hall of Famer way past his prime) vs. the big three in Miami who, IMO, gamed the system to steal rings. They almost seem like cheaters to me just by doing that. And also I love Dirk. I love Kidd too. I'd be happy to see them retire with rings. The Heat players will have their turns.
    - I have no animosity left for any other team anymore. I've hated the Jazz, the Sonics, the Spurs, the Mavs, the Lakers at one point or another. Especially the Jazz. But all the players and coaches I hated retired. And the Rockets haven't had a meaningful rivalry with any team for a pretty long time now (a rivalry involves two teams both occasionally winning playoff series) because they haven't won in a very long time.

Memphis never crushed our dreams by 40 points in a game 7. A series that was supposed to mark the rebirth of the Rockets from the crap we had been eating for years.

Also there is The Batman, who is similar to Jesus Christ among some Rockets fans.

I know this is just entertainment, but I never understood why someone would expend energy to define or control another person's fandom. You're lucky to live in one of the most democratic countries in the world, so why try so hard to establish groupthink? End minor rant.

We have to pray for the hard cap. At $45M, that will make it hard for teams to get three superstars.

So we hate the team that beats us instead of trying to become better than them? Why wish ill fate on other people whether you think they deserve it or not? Nasty attitude.

Although I'd rather see the Mavericks win, I'm not necessarily rooting for them. When I watch the game at bars, people go crazy when they make a big basket like it's their team. I really just want to see a good series, but I'm not suddenly going to start cheering for them when they're in the finals when I haven't all season long or in fact ever.

That's exactly it. A rivalry goes 2 ways, not just one. Hard to call it a "rivalry" when one team make the playoffs every year and is a game away from winning a championship and the other has only won 1 playoff series in 14 years...

Also, I don't know why some people seem to have such a problem is with us hating the Heat. Hating a team can be almost as much fun as loving your own. It's what makes following sports so much fun.

That being said, I would pull for the Heat if they were playing the j*zz....

LOL. Yes, I think the Jazz or the Lakers are the only teams that could make me root for the Heat.

It will indeed suck listening to Dallas fans.. but I'm German and would love for Dirk to win.

Why do poll makers always taint the answer choices. For instances Dallas is acceptable but why add all the biased information, such as the line about Jason Kidd who I could Care less about. Just put some straightforward answers if you want a poll.

I vote neither. That being said, deep inside, LeDouche and DWhistle have been such douche bags that I kinda find myself cheering for Dirk. I dislike myself for it, I know, but it's true.

Good point. It is hard not to respect this Dallas team that has swept the Lakers and pushed the SuperFriends to the brink.

I've gotta root for the serious, quiet, hard-working players in Dallas who have paid their dues over the drama queens in LA and Miami, and their navel-gazing, hand-wringing "woe-is-me" bellyaching.

I absolutely cannot openly root for the Mavs to win the title. But, while watching them embarrass the Lakers this year, I came to the conclusion that I wouldn't be too upset if they did win.

This is the finals I didn't want to happen, because I hate Cuban's smirky mug being shown during every other commercial break of a Mavs game & also hate the conspiricy trio. However after watching the Mavs sweep:eek: the Fakers, I've gained a new respect for the Mavs players. I've said this in another thread, "I haven't seen Cuban's mug much if any during this series."

    i hate both teams

the only reason why im rooting for dallas is that i want everyone to know that the 3 superstars model does not always work.

if miami wins, then every superstar player, all star, generally good player would want to join up together leaving teams with no stars, like the rockets, charlotte, in the dust. the only plausible way of obtaining a star would be by tanking.

if dallas wins, it'll show players that sticking with your team through thick and thin, like nowitzki, can pay off

Only if it's against the Lakers, Spurs, or Jazz depending on where they are in your hate hierarchy.
