News recently broke that the grizzlies had not given their assistant coaches their playoff share, however hollins, the head coach, got his.

Mike Heisley is one of the off the wall people I've ever met. On the level of Donald Sterling. To say FU to your assistant coaches who helped you achieve playoff success is boardline lunacy at best.

I am more sure now that I ever was before that Heisley is going to run the grizzlies in the ground. I don't even see how Chris Wallace and Lionel Hollins can even work for this buffoon.

    Here is the situation:

The thing is, I bet the annual salary of all the assistants combined don't add up to what another team spends on buying a lousy 2nd round pick. I just don't know if this is the place where you want to scrimp money.

    Exactly.

But this is Mike Heisley all over. The guy would quibble for a dime and not care one iota about the bad blood he receives.

    He is a lunatic.

Remember the rookie contract situation with Greivis Vasquez and Xavier Henry last summer? What a clown of an owner, especially now that the Grizzlies might be on the cusp of a decent run for a couple of years.

LOL that owner didn't even bat an eyelash at paying Rudy Gay 20 M a year but then doesn't pay his assistant coaches a couple thousand dollars. Looks like Joerger doesn't have a contract, Rox should swoop in and take that guy.

Lol...why should the Grizz have been paying top dollar for their assistant coaches? Why did the coaches expect to get compensation greater than what their contract provided?

    Non-issue...

Oh I don't know, maybe because this is Hollins staff and he might think he needs them or wants to continue working with them.

To put Hollins out on an island by giving him a full share and then playing hardball with his staff, just breds ill will toward the whole organization.

If you don't think this will affect hollins going forward you are just fooling yourself. It will affect him.

MemphisX, every head coach in the league usually is able to secure a staff around him that he believes will give him the best shot to win. By being cheap Heisley is making that infinitely difficult for Hollins.

Joerger is definitely gone. And who is going to replace him? Since Heisley has made it clear that the only coach he respects is Hollins, how much money will uncle Heisley allow Hollins for an inferior coach?

I mean why does Hollins even need assistants, for that matter. It's all him anyway right? It's just another stupid career move for anyone to join Hollins staff after this debacle.

Yet another example of why people around here should quit whining about Les Alexander. He may not be the best owner in the league, but we're fortunate we didn't get stuck with somebody like Sterling, Heisley or Shinn.

Dude...you have to have some sort of cost-benefit system in place.

Cost of your assistant coaches: a few thousand dollars
Cost of keeping your assistant coaches happy: priceless

Assistants are essential to any coaching staff, they are the ones who implement the head coaches' vision for the team. If the staff had some kind of development/mentoring programs going on these assistant coaches interact with the players on a day-to-day basis. If the dude working with Rudy Gay feels like he's being lowballed will he teach Gay everything he knows about being an all star forward?

A few thousand dollars is nothing when you're a millionaire owner and you can afford to pay Gay 20M a year. Its like what A3po said, its just as stupid as lowballing your frist round picks of a couple grand.

Hmm good point. That team also had Cassell as the wily vet with a limited time span, and that role's played by Z-Bo today.

At the risk of sounding like a complete homer, I think Alexander is actually one of the best owners in the L, comparable with Cuban. Cuban spends more on the court, but Alexander spends a lot of dough OUT of the court, which is more sensible and a better IMHO. He always hires the high end coaches, paid for the techy stuff DM requires, and bought picks for cash, something I really appreciate out of an owner. This year he even consented to pay for the lux tax on a mediocre team.

From the way you described things, you made it sound like Les is this awesome owner who is a ferocious spender,(only off the court per your post).

I'm sure that Brendan Haywood contract trumps everything Les Alexander spent off the court in his entire tenure since he bought the Rockets.

Btw, back on topic, the Grizz owner is getting a bit ridiculous here. He should reward the assistant coaches for their contribution to the team. The Grizz had one of the best defenses in the league that suffocated the Spurs, and Dave Joerger was the defensive co-ordinator that ran the show on that side of the court. An extension or a bonus would have been much appropriate for those assistants.

However, that said, the Grizz owner is a buffoon. He make trivial matters seem like it will rip away his whole wealth, like that rookie contract fiasco for Xavier Henry, etc. No one will give him the credit for bringing in Zach Randolph and Marc Gasol unless he sorts this kind of low-level mess out.

Mike Heisley is the biggest liar and ******* next to Sterling among NBA owners. He ****ing lied to NBA to get his team and then moved it to Memphis.

Just when we finally see the light of the tunnel after Stu Jackson *****ed it up so bad for years...

**** him and all his people can go bankrupt and suffer the rest of his life and no even one single ***** will be given. Dying is just too easy on him that son of a b****.
