That Chandler screen for Dirk to get the open 3 won the game. Chandler looks like a center blocking for the QB. Heads up play.

Erik Spoelstra is too young to know how JVG contained Dirk in the playoffs. He has one of the best defenders in the League in LeBron and he's not using him to guard Dirk.

    Chandler - Anthony
    Dirk - Lebron
    Marion - Jones
    Terry - Wade
    Kidd - Chalmers

Using him to guard Terry is just stupid. Wade can cover him easily.

Well either Chalmers or Bibby needs to be out there. Unless you want Wade to run the point.

He wants to put LBJ at PF to match him up against Dirk and Bosh cannot match up against Marion or Chandler.

On defense? Yes. Bosh isn't a good defender, and Jones is a much better option than Miller. Spoelstra should have put LeBron on Dirk for the last possession of the game. JVG was  their putting Bosh on Dirk?

The Heat should have given this man a call.

Didn't notice at first, but LeBron just watched Dirk shoot that three.

Yeah, LeBron's defense was pretty bad all game long. Marion was scoring at will on him.

Yeah, what would Miami know about containing Dirk back in the mid 2000's

The Heat's defensive rotation looks lost in that video. James looked like he did a lot of roaming on defense instead of locking down on anyone in particular. Did the Mavs do something differently that took the Heat out of their defensive rhythm?

Just watched the vids again, and it's really interesting how much variation the Mavs were able to get out of the staggered pick-and-roll play.

However, the play requires both of the Mavs' big men to come out to the perimeter to set screens that free up Terry and start the action. That also meant Dallas had to abandon the paint, with Marion often the only Maverick in any good position to get a rebound.

Basically the play gave the Mavs one good open look each time they ran it, and they were clutch enough to make the shots. Worked out well, of course, but it's not without its risks.

    Wow.

That's twice I've done the exact same thing to this Mavs team. Went to sleep last night when they were down 15, went to sleep during the OKC series when they were down 15 in the 4th and came back.

It wouldn't be much of a highlight reel, but I'd like to see a video of all the blown offensive sets Miami had in the last couple minutes of the game.

yup, every time i've seen the replay i keep going back to that...i'm not sure whether he thinkg he's that good, and he'll just come back and score, or if he doesn't believe Dirk will hit it.

You could say he was afraid to overcommit to Dirk and leave Terry open -- except he wasn't exactly covering Terry either and in any case you'd rather give Terry an uncontested shot than give one to Dirk. It was just plain lazy.

I think he thought Dirk would drive, like bosh did, and he just started falling back into the paint to look to steal a pass...but then he didn't even flinch when Dirk set up. I think he just still has that mentality where he can't be blamed if they didn't score on him and/or wasn't his man. That's one of the things i hate the most of any player at any level. They'll stand and watch an opposing player win a game and will be quick and proud to point out their man was "covered".
