Anyone ever had one? I recently became 12 out of 1000 people statistic and have a blocked gland. Has anyone ever had one?

These b****es suck ass...every time I eat my submandibular gland swells up huge and hurts like a mother.

Any advice or anything really is appreciated!

My sister in-law experienced this a few years back.

If I recall right it was caused by a blockage from little calcium stone that had built up there under her tongue. She ended up going to an oral surgeon who made a tiny incision and took the stone out. It was a basic short day surgery procedure and she was back home the same day and much better the following week.

My best advice would be to seek out a oral surgeon right off the bat because as I recall she got the run around with two or three dentists four about a month and a half before she got referred to the oral surgeon who had her diagnosed and better again within two weeks of seeing him.

I had it one time before I believe. Right side on my jaw swelled up pretty good and it was hard to chew on food. Putting hot compress on the side that's swelling should do the trick.

What does the doctor say? Does it require medication or time?

I had one flare up one time while eating in an Italian restaurant. It didn't hurt but I knew it wasn't right. Went to a walk-in clinic and they treated it-- don't remember how but there was no surgery or anything. Never recurred.

I had to get mine removed years back. I kept sticking a needle in it and draining it but came back. I wouldnt suggest doing that.....go to a dr. It doesnt hurt and its over quick.

I had a submandibular salivary gland swell up on me several years ago. Didn't know what it was at first and you try not to think "cancer". Thankfully the gland was simply swollen, and likely (not a doctor's diagnosis) from the extreme stress I was going through at the time.

The strange thing? I actually first felt a problem there when I bit into a York peppermint patty. So whenever I saw that damn commercial, "When I bite into a York peppermint patty" I would add, "I get a swollen submandibular salivary gland that makes me worry I might have cancer."

Anyway, going to the doctor for the problem simply underscored why I hate "specialists". The doctor came in to tell me what they'd already told me in the oncology lab, that it wasn't cancer, and that it was simply swollen and would I like to have it removed.

    (long pause)

    (pause becoming even longer)

(pause so long that I could hear my nose hairs growing)

"Uh, maybe tell me the pros and cons?????"

Some of the cons with having surgery involved the possibility of having pain the rest of my life because everyone is biologically the same but oh-just-a-wee-bit-different; you don't know what nerves are in such-and-so area.

I told Dr. Ratchet I'd think about it. The problem went away in time.

I know this hasn't been helpful, but just make sure you do plenty of your own research before letting someone commit----er, perform----surgery.
