Mexico celebrates El Día de los Muertos, or the Day of the Dead, over the first two days of November. It's traditionally a time when families gather to lovingly remember their lost relatives, the first day for deceased children, the second for adults. THAT'S what I'm talking about! There is way too much crying and grieving when it comes to death. If anything, death should be a celebration of leaving this world and going to a much better place. When I die, I want all my friends and family to throw a HUGE party! (first person to make a wise crack gets it! )
rockHEAD-- I remember celebrating Dia de los meurtos when I was taking Spanish courses. Pan de muerto is really not very good. None of my departed relatives would want to eat it. It really is a nice tradition in that culture...one that I've always thought eases the pain of losing a loved one.
I love the whole 'offrenda' or altars to the dead... I love the way they decorate them with photos and favorite items of the deceased. If any of you want to see some 'offrendas' go to Casa Ramirez on 19th Street in the Heights... Macario Ramirez is the owner and every year they celebrate and have people create offrendas. If you've never seen one, go!! Way cool...
We were going to do that today in my Spanish class, but my stupid Spanish teacher wasn't here. We've been learning a little bit about these 2 days and...stuff. I was going to bring stuff, but I changes my mind and just colored a skull paper. Hehe...our teacher told us we could bring EMPTY tequila bottles to remember the dead by. I don't think anyone did it, though.
Dia de los Muertos? For a second I thought you were referring to the recent Rockets' effort against the Pacers.
