Not really. It can range from not serious to incredibly serious. I had twins born slightly premature (most twins are slightly premature) and they spent a few days in NICU to keep them under the incubation lamps and make sure they developed well enough. It was a bit stressful for us regardless, but it wasn't serious. There were other babies there that did have serious problems. So who knows? Since they said it was caused by a complication of the delivery and not some genetic thing, and since he is traveling and said she was going to get through it, I think it probably isn't all that serious. But, it could be. Regardless, it's very stressful having a baby in NICU whether it's serious or not.
we had a situation similar to yours.... not too serious, but still needed a couple fo days in the NICU. And, even though you are there around a lot of other newborns that are clearly in more critical conditions, the NICU is just a stressful, tiring time.... like you said. Still, Mike had one of his best games of the season last game, so maybe it's the type of stress / distraction outside the game he needed to not worry about his game so much and just go out there and play hard.
not to judge this situation, but ICU isn't always "serious". sometimes certain things are not allowed to be done in the regular nursery - like IV fluids or IV antibiotcs or even simpler things like phototherapy or incubators. to give you an example in slightly jaundice babies, many hospitals here in vegas have to transfer babies to the ICU for phototherapy, but sometimes babies can even be sent home on phototherapy lights. the only reason they aren't done in regular nurseries, is that many hospitals have taken out a regular nursery and have babies "room in" with mother. therefore any little thing gets transferred to an ICU... again not judging this specific situation, just stating that there is a really wide variety of stuff going on in a Neonatal ICU.. (oh btw, i'm a pediatrician)
This isn't even a story the media has made a big deal about. They aren't talking about it over and over on every sports talk. You should have stopped at sorry for the misunderstanding
