Really good article on Yao and how Cuttino and Steve were their rookie year. OT's story from last year is a classic. This should keep people shut for awhile.

Also realized the last time we lost an opener was vs. the Bucks during Steve's rookie year.

I remember that game. Sam really lit up Stevie that night. Had something like 35 as I remember.

That's not true. The Rockets were blown out at home by the Timberwolves to open the 2000-01 season.

You are right ZRB, I remember that we played the T'Wolves the first and last game of the season.

"With the exception of the much larger audience watching Yao's debut and a couple of idiotic hecklers sitting behind the Rockets bench and feigning a Chinese accent, what Yao experienced Wednesday was just like what every rookie experiences"

Good to see racist Pacer fan decided to show up tonight.

Playing together as a team will obviously lead to success but Yao will also have to learn how to be more aggressive and look for shots and to score whenever he gets a good opportunity and to improve his rebounding and defense. He comes from a culture where an individual player is not expected to "win" a game.
I'm not saying he shouldn't pass the ball when he can create opportunities for his teammates but he will have to take a bigger role as he gets more experience on both the offensive and defensive end because without him we can't win.
I think he will get better with time but his progress might be slower than I originally thought. He has a lot to learn about the NBA game.

Is it just me, but I am watching the game and I swear that Yao is wearing his jersey that just says "Yao"?

don't start the whole racism thing....its just not racist to make fun of someone's accent. its called being an ass...so deal with it. everyone is too sensitive and there have been things that were much worse done by hecklers in the past.

Dave2000, you are right Yao had a jersey that only said "Yao" on it instead of the whole name. Just making a confirmation.

League rules permit only the surname (family or last name) on a jersey. The Rox were forced to change it.

they how did he get away playing with the whole name during the preseason?

Is it because of just that, it was exhibition?
