http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news/ap/20000802/ap-supersonics-lewis.html Rashard Lewis has signed a 3 year 13 million dollar deal with Seattle. So who should we target next year? Cap Room means nothing if there is no one to go after! ------------------
Chris Webber! If Webber thinks he likes playing with Jason Williams (the most over-hyped player in the league today), then Webber will LOVE playing with Francis. We could make Webber our first option in the half court set, and still run, run, run. ------------------
Sounds like if Webber does leave that he may head back to Detroit, or maybe in Indiana if Jalen Rose stays there. ------------------
I think there are other teams that have a better chance at Chris Webber. Detroit will have some cap room next off season and that's his hometown. Webber has also said he'd like to be in New York with Spreewell. I beleive Miami even has a lot of cap room next off season and Miami is a lot closer to winning a title then Houston. ------------------ You ain't gotta like me, you just mad cause I tell it how it is, and you tell it how it might be. Webber likes Houston. I remember him as a half-time guest on NBC early in the 1995 playoffs. When asked who he liked to win it among the teams still alive, he said the Rockets. This came at a time when not many where giving them a realistic chance of repeating. Despite the disbelief of the others TV guys, Web had that misheavious grin on his face and a twinkle in his eye. The key I believe to recruiting him will be for the team to perform well this season. We need to become one of the hot teams that people notice even if our record isnt playoff worthy. He needs to see that we have a solid foundation, that everyone gets along and its fun to play in Houston. That and an oil tanker full of cash might do it. ------------------ [This message has been edited by Joe Fan (edited August 02, 2000).]
He has a player's option after the second year so, even though he'll be gone next year, he'll be free to come sign with us the year after that. ------------------ Rockets Draft Obligations Summary http://www.gaffordstudios.cjb.net/
The Rockets are going to have to make a decision this summer on how much cap room they want to try and stockpile for 2001. If they want to be in a position to sign Chris Webber (11 mil cap space), they will have to either dump Walt Williams salary for a FA to be in 2001 or not use the 4.5 mil trade exception. If the Rockets want to keep everything they have intact, ie. keep Williams, Rogers, Thomas, Drew, etc use the 4.5 mil exception in a trade, they will only have at most 3.5 mil in cap space. Thus, if they want to get to 11 mil to sign Webber, they will have to make some tough decisions ie. moving some of those players and possibly not using the 4.5 mil trade exception. The question is, would you rather keep/pick up more role players or attempt to prepare for a big FA target in 2001? My personal opinion is go for the big one in 2001. ------------------ Check out the Best Source for Draft Info Draftsource.net
