and no b****ing about how his pinky toe hurts? Could this be the season that Cato emerges as an intergal part of our team? 1 game doesnt tell alot, but to me he looks like he is hustling a lot more this year than last. If he is consistent for the next 10 or so games, I will be the first to jump on the bandwagon.
Also had 3 blocks and 2 steals. Cato is probably the second most unnderrated Rocket. People will never forgive his contract and thus will overlook his numbers that are actually pretty average. I know he probably can't keep up this pace, but I would be happy if he can average double digit rebounds and 2 bpg.
I know Cato gets a lot of crap here on the boards but big time props to Cato on that 17 rebound performance last night. He really contributed....with the flu no less. Good job Kelvin Cato! Chris
Cato didn't play good on the offensive end, but he hustled, and grabbed a lot of rebounds. I was impressed by his performance. Hopefully he will bring the same attitude to every game.
I will congradulate Cato on the rebounds, but I still don't know how he did it. He didn't seem to be really moving a lot. On defense, he barely challenged shots. To me, he looked like he still had the flu, yet he wound up with all those rebounds and a couple of blocks. I didn't see anything offensively in the second half, other than a failed alley-oop, and defensively, he had little effect on O'Neil. I do give him his props for playing when he was probably still feeling the effects of the flu. I really wanted Rudy to put Yao back in in the 4th qtr, though, to see if he could get his offense going.
I think ultimately it comes down to motivation. As long as Cat and Wink can keep him motivated to play hard, I would be happy with an average of: 10 pts 8 rbs 2 blks Once Mo Taylor and Rice are back in the rotation, I think you will see a much improved team. We have most of the pieces, we just need consistency, and time.
Yeah, Cato played well last night, which was nice. Anyone happen to know how many of those rebounds were offensive (off the top of your head)? Rough estimate would be okay too.
I'd like to see Cato go after a goal of being #1 in rebounds for the league. If he does, Yao may be coming off the bench this whole season.
cato played great. rice said after the game that kelvin told him that no matter how many minutes he played he was gonna bust his ass and get every rebound. well he came pretty close. since it is cato here, i'll throw in that he didn't finish too well on that little alley-oop play from steve and mooch. but if that's the tradeoff i'll take it everyday. keep it up big fella.
I just looked it up. For the record, 7 offensive rebounds and 10 defensive. I think the offensive rebounds tells a good story as well as a bad one. True, some of those were racked up because the Rockets weren't hitting their shots. BUT, it also shows me Cato was hustling out there. He's not the main offensive threat, but he's working hard to get himself involved in the offense. Now we have to also get some 2nd chance points out of those offensive boards. Good work, Cato.
Cato is capable of putting up those kinds of numbers every night. If was just motivated enough to box out, and push people around he'd be invaluable. Maybe this year he'll play with a "mean streak" like a Charles Oakley or Anthony Mason.
Everybody really does love to hate Cato! If you remember last season, he put up some very good numbers on a very consistent basis from about halfway through the season and onwards till the end. I'm not able to pull the stats right now, but at a guess, I'd suggest he averaged 8-10ppg and 9-10rpg along with 1.5bpg over that stretch (if anyone could confirm that, it'd be great!) Sure 17 boards is a big game, but it's not out of the ordinary for Kelvin Cato, based on his recent NBA form. I hope the big fella keeps playing well and averages 10rpg for the whole of this year.
