I can really see where the people who want to cut their losses on Yao are coming from, but honestly, I'd LOVE to see Yao playing in a Rockets jersey again, if he can play, he should stay. (I really would hate to see him in another jersey...)
Man Im either way on Yao returning. I like him for the Size,Skill(when healthy) and revenue/international recognition he brings. But I just hate how we plan on Yao playing a big part, and offenses that go through him just to be let down. I love Yao, but Big players hardly have long careers. So I wonder if we should just move on and try to get a Franchise center.... but then again who? Either way Go Rockets!
14/7/3/1 @ 25mph Who else can we sign? I would give him 2 years, $10 million with a player option the second year. Put it like this, either its $5 million wasted or $10 million well spent.
I don't understand how anyone can be against the idea of resigning Yao for the vets minimum. It's a classic low risk, high reward type move.
Give him 2 mill, manage his minutes wisely and he might last 60% of the season.15 to 20 minutes a night and he'll give you 10 and 6. Thats far better then Millers production
If they sign Yao, they will not sign a big time center. When Yao breaks down again, they will be 9 seed for third year in a row
If the Lakers showed us anything, it's that you can never have too many big men. If Yao is cheap, bring him on board and then keep on searching for that starting center we need.
I'm realistic about Yao's chances, but from the business side you can't discount Yao. So much is invested in Yao already. Would you guys really be comfortable with Yao playing the Shaq role for the Celtics next wheneverithappens season? We cannot be outbid for Yao. Yao is not asking Hakeem money either. Getting a superstar is difficult as hell as we've seen. We've got one on layaway. We pay so many players "what they're worth," but in the desperate position we're in, we can either pay Yao $1-5 million or we can give it to a nameless future player we'll call Marc Jackson.
...and then he plays for the T-wolves, plays whole season, carries the team deep in the playoffs. Darn!
I like to to see the re-invention of Yao. We can't find a center who is a human tree and can shoot FTs. Why not keep a center since Rockets are in dire need of one. He might not be successful, but at least try to experiment. Given Yao's work ethic, he should be able to come back and give it a try. I'm quite sure, if it doesn't work out, he'll retire.
Its ALWAYS about the money. Not just with the Rockets, but will all teams in all sports across the world.
Don't mean to sound so negative but if indeed he does end up coming back (for VET MIN) he will not make it through the entire season healthy! he will once again get hurt I have been saying that since the first time he ever got hurt. He can hang in CHINA but not in the USA! were to physical for him. Just my opinion dont want any haters
The worst thing would be if they re-signed him and he actually played. "hey everybody, let's stop running the offense and stand around and try to get the ball to the lumbering giant for 10 minutes a night in vague hopes of reclaiming past glories" No thanks.
