There was a point before a commercial break where Ryan says something like "you DO NOT want to miss what happens with Scotty and Lady Ga Ga...after this break". I missed what happened after that. lol

Was Lady Ga Ga smitten with Scotty? Or, what happened when they got together and she heard him sing?

Please lord... please send one of these country singers home tonight. I absolutely cannot stand the idea of Lauren and Scotty competing in the finale.

Haley is building that Carrie Underwood momentum. Remember?

Randy and Jennifer have abused Haley. Every week they've given her some sort of negative feedback on a season when they have been afraid to give anyone any negative feedback at all.

Lady Gaga told him to make love to his microphone, hold it in front of him like it's his girlfriend and she wants him to ram his tongue down her throat. They played up that Scotty is a good "Christian boy" and he kissed his cross necklace afterwards and said it was awkward.

good job keeping Haley in. Fine with James going home, though I guess I would have preferred Lauren

I quit watching after Casey was sent packing. I'm sorry guys but I just don't get the Haley love. I just think that both Casey and James are more talented than her, but I understand it is my opinion. I'm ready to be skewered by the Haley lovers like what.

With that being said, I still read about it on a website called buddytv and I know about James being sent home tonight. Someone mentioned on that site and I agree completely that Scotty should have never made it into the top 24 because he totally effed up "I Hope You Dance" in the Hollywood round. There was a time, or I thought, that if you forgot the words to a song, you were instantly toast. But for whatever reason, they let him slide. Now this Alfred E Neumann lookalike may be your next American Idol - thanks America! "<removed due to musical snobbery>"

Manny, your music elitism is noted. No need to make the point again.

With that said, I would have sent any of the other three home over James. I think Haley is good, but Scotty has gotten worse every week and Lauren is an emotional mess that can't really handle the spotlight. Haley and James both deserved to be going to the final over the other two.

I like Haley and I think she has the strongest voice of the four that were left...but regardless of whether she was still there or not, Durbin and Abrams both deserved to go home. Neither were strong enough to win it. Durbin came off like a douche whose performances were cheesy and anything but inspiring. And I liked Casey from the beginning, but I started to sour on him as the weeks wore on. His voice just felt weak to me. As for Scotty, I'd give the judges props for giving him a second chance, recognizing that he has a unique voice. People make mistakes; so he forgot the lyrics. He most definitely deserves to be there. He is what he is...pure country...he shouldn't lose points for that.

Simon would have ripped that kid a new one for forgetting the words; the judges they have now are too soft. It is like they are all afraid to give any criticism (outside of to Haley, of course).

You can add Scotty to this list of past contestants who forgot words yet still managed to make at least the final 3. (incidentally, Simon was still on the show then)

    Danny Gokey
    David Archuletta
    Carrie Underwood

Oh definitely...kinda why I haven't watched that much lately. Just too soft on everybody. I thought it was odd they put him through at first too, but his voice warranted that second chance I think.

I remember both Gokey and Archuleta messing up but it was after they got voted in the final 24/12 or whatever it was when they were on. It was NOT during the Hollywood week. I didn't watch when Carrie Underwood was on, so I don't know about her. So, to me your comparison isn't an apples to apples one because if Gokey and Archuleta had messed up the lyrics in Hollywood week, they would have both been gone - at least that is what the policy had been.

I imagine there are a lot of things that happen that we don't see that get overridden by Nigel Lythgoe (I guess that it is his name) or whoever the main producer of the show is. They probably saw in Scotty pretty early the potential for him to strike an accord with the country crowd - just like they did with Carrie Underwood.

Apparently Carrie Underwood forgot words twice during Hollywood week. I remember other contestants throughout the years going through after forgetting words during the tryout rounds. I don't think it was a hard and fast rule, simply a threat the judges tended to hang over their heads.

but they say that EVERY season that if someone forgets their lyrics then they're going home...and every season, someone forgets and they still give them a chance.

They already commented on the word-forgetting, so I'll leave that one

The Casey thing.. he was the one I wanted to win from the first time he appeared on TV. But he deserved to go. It's not about who has more talent...it's about the performances, too. And Casey was inconsistent on his choices and what he was putting out there. He stopped doing what he was amazing at and was coming up short too often. And at times he got weird. Now, everyone has done that some, too, but he deserved to go home as much as anyone else so I don't think anyone can take issue with it

Anyway, I'd have been fine with any of them going home this week. Honestly they're all around the same level, and I agree that Lauren can't survive the spotlight. But like I wrote last week, Haley is the only one that has been even midly interesting over the last 3 weeks out of these 4 + Jacob. That's why I wanted her to stay

I have to admit I'm somewhat surprised to see James go. Unfortunately, I can't really say I'm all that sorry it happened.

The real story of the week is Haley and how she managed to stay alive despite the judges going for the kill. This is the second week in a row where the judges have needlessly been hard on her while unanimously praising everybody else yet she's managed to survive despite all of it.

Think back to the week Pia was eliminated -- what happened? You had nine singers up there performing and all you heard from the judges were: "You were great", "It was perfect", "_____ is in it, to win it!", etc. Then Pia performed and J-Lo went on some rant that Randy echoed regarding her 'body movements' and lack thereof or something odd. Basically, it was the only type of negative feedback you saw and apparently voters used it as a guide to helping them vote. Bye bye, Pia.

And what was J-Lo even getting at when she criticized Haley's first song? She needed to do something "relevant" and "something the audience would respond" to then compared her performance to James'. James did freakin Journey. 1980's. How does that make any sense? How do you argue that a Journey song was spot-on but doing Michael Jackson isn't? I don't understand the logic there.

Anyway, glad she came out and killed it on the second song. She's really grown on me and is definitely my favorite here on out.

Wow...pretty cool of Haley to pull of "what is and what should never be"
