Magic Johnson did the exact same thing to Isiah Thomas in the NBA finals and played the next game. How far we've come..

I agree with you that my argument wasn't very clever. But I think this is the league's fault for making a statement earlier to suspend him for more than 2 games when he made that hit on Beasley. That was his 2nd offense and he should've been suspended 5 games on that hit. Since the league didn't do anything to show that they were going to light a fire under his ass if he did it again, he went on to do it again for the third time. This is why I think that the 5 game suspension is his last strike and final warning (even though I think a 7-8 game warning would have been better), if he does anything cheap like that again he will be suspended for 10-15 games.

man even charles barkley is in disbelief at this.

are you serious? That wasn't even close to as serious as what Bynum did.

Because Isiah didn't fall to the floor? I'm pretty sure both were playing after the fouls. Neither was hurt. Unless you're just punishing Bynum for being big and Barea small?

Five games seems stern, but I'm OK with it. Immediately after it happened most people speculated two. Delonte West got suspended 10 games for weapons charges. We're going to equate frustrated elbows to that?

Rodman actually kicked the camera man in the groin.

No, because Magic made a play on the ball and it wasn't clearly out of frustration.

No, because Magic hit with his arm at Isiah's arms. Bynum hit with his elbow at Barea's ribs.

Yes, and Bynum is much bigger than Magic too, plus he has a history of elbowing players while they are in the air in a vulnerable position. You have to send a message to repeat offenders.

Magic's hit didn't even send Isiah Thomas to the floor. If Barea landed on his feet like Thomas did, Bynum probably would have at most been ejected and that's it.

and that's why he got 5 games.

bynum got suspended for doing that to a bigger player in beasley (2 games). b/c it is another offense, it was increased to 5 games. the L is doing the right thing by increasing the penalty.

It's not the nature of the foul, it's the fact that this is the third offense Bynum has committed in the exact same manner.

Which is ridiculously lenient for a 3x offender. Maybe he'll get 10+ games when he finally paralyzes someone. Hopefully someone gives Bynum a taste of his own medicine and ends his career before then.

What? Magic was definitely frustrated -- they were down 17!! And there is no way that is a play on the ball, even the commentators picked up on it.

The point of it wasn't to show that it was equal to Bynum; it was to show that Magic didn't even get ejected for that. Imagine if that happened in today's game -- immediate ejection with suspension probably coming. Hence, why you all are a buncha Nancies. ;)

That apology is BS, he did that 3 times already, how is not representative?
the lakers have done dirty plays on other teams, and never get suspended for a lot of games.

    serious?

ron artest got ONE game for aiming his elbow at barea's FACE.

Zaza pachulia got ONE game for headbutting jrich THREE TIMES which could be more serious if he did it harder

ryan hollins got suspended TWO games for punch stevenson in the face AND hitting dirk in the head in one game

rasheed got suspended TWO games for hitting a ref a decade ago (and you can't touch refs)

and the you have delonte west got suspended 10 games for pleading guilty to weapons charges

    c'mon now

OMG, what Artest did was only borderline flagrant and he only got a suspension on reputation. He was running towards Barea to intentionally foul (I guess) and kinda ran into Odom (who got the worst of the transaction) which made the whole thing look worse than it was. Bynum's act was malicious, and it's the third time he has done the exact same thing. In his postgame interview (where you can see his true colors) he even admitted that he did it because he was "salty" that the guards were getting wherever they wanted. If this is the kind of thing that is tolerated by the league (as it is, given the minor penalty), then you are going to see players getting hurt. Had Barea or Beasley landed on their heads instead of their backs, they would likely be seriously injured.

I just hope someone undercuts Bynum and takes out his knees for good so he can't pull this kind of crap anymore. Better him than an opposing player who is just doing his job (which is basketball, not MMA).
