What is the starting five looking like for tonight's game? I have heard about all the injuries and was just wondering what 5 we are going to start on the floor.

Well, assuming KT and Cato are out.

Steve, Mobley, Rice, Griffin, and....Collier

The official Rockets website just changed Glen Rice status for tonight's game from doubtful to will not play:

    http://www.nba.com/rockets/news/Rockets_200203_Injury_Report-55410-34.html
    GLEN RICE
    -Oct. 28, 2002-
Strained knee Will not play 10/30 vs. Pacers

-Hopefully it is just a typo because the date refers back to 10/28. But even an hour ago, it said doubtful?

thx ron for the update. sucks.

I read the "Date" column as date of injury, which is different than the "status" column.

I think Yao will start and Collier will back him up.

We are really paper thin at the 4, 5 positions right now. This is my predication of the distribution of minutes tonight:

C Yao 25-35 minutes (depending on foul troubles)
Collier 13-23 minutes (depending on Ming's foul trouble)

PF Griffin 40 minutes (Eddie will have to play a lot tonight)
    Collier 8 minutes

If Rice does play, maybe he can play some four. Also, we can play Eddie at center and bring in Boki to play some four if Indiana goes small.

Wow. They're dropping like flies for the opener.
So, assuming it's true, who starts? Nachbar? Hawkins??

Did I forget someone?? (Eddie?!? I'm talking about the 3, of course)
(this will be an interesting game...)

What's wrong with Kelvin? I looked on rockets.com and the injury report says he has no injuries.

This is really getting frustrating. In the paper this morning it said he was just peaches.

So, half the team is out, right? Thomas, Taylor, Cato, Rice, Morris, Norris?

I'm hoping it's Francis, Mobley, Nachbar, Griffin, and Ming are the starters. That's the team's future!!! However, I think Rudy might start Collier, but Ming will still get more minutes.

If you look on ROCKETS.com in the GAME NOTES for tonight (PDF Download) it says the "Probable Starters" are:

    PF - Griffin
    SF - Nachbar
    C - Cato
    SG - Mobley
    PG - Francis

I really wouldnt worry about who is starting. The main thing as that we get back on defense because Indiana likes to Run and get easy layups and Ron artest is good at stripping the ball . We need our guys to make a defensive stand tonight. Im not worried about our offense too much because they really cant stop our guards or forwards and if Yao gets in a groove, ITS OVER. Just my 2 cents guys.

It was in the Houston newspaper. He just loosened up some of the scar tissue and was going to test it in shoot around. They said he probably would start, that it was minor...

    He's definitely out.

    Take a look at rockets.com:

Oct. 30 - A season filled with optimism tips off tonight at Conseco Fieldhouse when the rejuvenated Rockets take on the Indiana Pacers (KNWS Ch. 51, SportsRadio 610). Injuries to forwards Kenny Thomas (will not play tonight), Glen Rice (out) and Terence Morris (out) along with the suspension of Maurice Taylor has depleted the frontcourt, likely meaning extended minutes for rookies Yao Ming and Bostjan Nachbar in tonight's contest. Join Rockets.com as we preview Houston's first 12 games of the new season.

    Rockets summary

    Good news

In a rare twist of late, a Rockets player went down with an injury and feared the worst but received the best news possible.

Glen Rice, who was originally listed as doubtful to play tonight, was changed to questionable before Tuesday's practice and then was listed as a probable starter by the team as it headed to Indianapolis.

"It was great news," said Rice, who landed awkwardly on his knee knee in practice Monday and underwent an MRI exam. "Once they tell you `you just broke up a little scar tissue,' it is such a relief. I didn't want to miss one or two more days. I'm trying not to miss a couple days."

Rice will test his knee at today's shootaround.

"It will mean a lot to be out there if it is feeling good," he said. "If it's not up to par, it's a matter of being smart."

Either way, it beats what was going through his mind after hurting his knee Monday.

"I was thinking, `Man, it's going to be another nightmare,' " Rice said. "Strange things go through, like, `Wow, maybe this is it.' Once I got the news everything was fine, it was a big, big relief."

    :D :p

    What is wrong with Moochie?

    Mo Taylor is on suspension.

KT, TMo and Rice are out with injuries right?

I hadn't heard anything about Cato being out.

    PG - Francis
    SG - Mobley
    C - Cato
    PF - Griffin
    SF - Nachbar?

Rice is OK, nothing is wrong with Mooch. KT is out, Cato is questionable with the flu, TMo, Tito, and Mickeal are on the IL.
