I guess the OP is just surprised people Rox fans are rooting for the Thunder. Posters gushing over individual players happen often (esp. with nice guy characters like B. Roy and Durant), but its rare that Rox fans root for another entire team to do well. Personally I like Cuban and Dirk a lot so I hope the Mavs go to the Finals.
-Clean cut, hard working young stars -One of the most enthusiastic home crowds in the game that I wish Houston could have, and they have only been in that city for a couple years -Former Houston Rocket head coach who is very humble, and has a great mind for the game -and Kevin Durant, UT product, and one of the most unique talents this game has seen in awhile. Doesn't seems to be cut of the same cloth as the Lebrons/Melo's of the last era of superstars. He's a breath of fresh air.
I dunno, maybe some just envy their team and wish the Rockets were like them or had their players, but I dont know. I dont know why you are riding Dallas' nuts this year(or why you would any year), its annoying. People arent suddenly rooting for OKC. Had people rooting for them last year, especially during their first round series with LA. Let me guess, you were rooting for LA then?
- We forgot that the Thunder are actually our hated nemesis -- the Seattle Supersonics -- in disguise because they changed their name. The same team to eliminate us from our 1993 run at the title with their illegal defense strategy. - We forgot that Clay Bennett stole this storied franchise from Seattle by making empty promises to try to keep the team in the Pacific Northwest, and then taking an unreasonable negotiating position so that he can bring his stolen team to his hometown as quickly as possible. I like Durant and the whole roster just fine. I hope the Thunder never win a title and that all their likable, humble, talented players flee to other teams as soon as possible. Go Battier!
Your first two statements contradicts eachother. If you hated them so much for the 1993 series, you should've been happy they got screwed over by Bennett and got moved.
The Sonics didn't get screwed, they prospered. The city of Seattle got screwed. That's outside the game and out of bounds for rivalries. I think it's a crying shame that Seattle lost a team that represented them for decades, even if they were our enemies on the court.
You liked them until everyone else liked them? Them's hipster words. I'm torn between wanting Battier or Durant/Brooks/Perkins to do well. I won't be disappointed either way, but think the Thunder are more likely go all the way of the two. Anyone but the Lakers/Heat and I'm good.
I am rooting for Thunder because Grizzly fan gloats too much and sticks nose up at "mediocre Rockets."
Its the same reason why everyone jocks Vince Young around here. Because Durant went to UT.... I agree. It's strange.
Is the OP under the impression that everyone on this board is on the Thunder wagon? Guess he hasn't met the Heat lovers here yet. Anyone but Boston, LA, or Miami for me. I'd love a Thunder-Bulls matchup. I'd even like to see the Griz go all the way, but not just for Battier's sake.
They're a likeable team, and we need someone to root for. Personally though, I'm gunning for Atlanta.
It could be that I live in Oklahoma, and I'll be working a block from the arena next year. Nah, as an OK State graduate, I follow them because Royal Ivey went to Texas!
Celtics have never been down 0-2 up until now ever since the big 3 was together. I'd say that's a very large accomplishment.
