I just re-read this thread and have to point out that Phi83 is the only one to mention "Old Yellar," (sniff, sniff) a great movie. And I'm not crying... I'm just a little (sniff, sniff) stuffy. Congrats to BF* for the Bad News Bears reference. I remember seeing that because of all the Astros and the Astrodome. All in all, the younger demographics of the board seem to influence the selections. Here's a few pre-bicentennial movies to consider: "Bonnie and Clyde" "Red River" with John Wayne, Montgomery Clift and Walter Brennan. Considered one of the greatest westerns ever made. "Hud" with Paul Newman. Patricia Neal won the Best Actress Oscar and Melvyn Douglas won for Best Supporting Actor. The film also won for Cinematography and received 4 other nominations, including Actor and Director. Based on a Larry McMurtry novel.
