His contract will expire this summer and I think many if not most teams would not mind signing Shane to a decent contract to get some veteran leadership and intangibles. My question, however, is will he start anywhere? I could see him starting on teams with holes at the SF slot like the Clippers but in terms of playoff teams who would be looking to sign an elite defender there aren't many options.

He'd start for the Rockets over Buinger.

As long as Memphis is winning, does it matter?

It doesn't matter whether Battier starts. He will not be on the bench at the end of close games any time soon.

Exactly! The better question is... will Battier stop playing at the end of games? Think Manu Ginobili people.

I doubt Battier cares very much about starting and probably won't be looking for a team that'll start him. He'll probably want someone who is playoff-bound and will give him rotation minutes. He also doesn't seem to want to move, since he didn't even want to leave Houston. Since Memphis is a playoff team that has minutes for him as a backup and he already has a life in Memphis, I say it's 99% likely he re-signs in Memphis for a modest price.
