    Manu - 80 games
    Parker - 78 games
    Duncan - 76 games
    Jefferson - 81 games
    Blair - 81 games
    Hill - 76 games
    McDyess - 73 games
    Neal - 80 games

Bounced out of the first round by the #8 seed. You will not see a team get more luck with injuries than that. Your top 8 players all playing 73+ games. Imagine what Rick Adelman could have done with half of that luck during the past 4 years. The decline of Duncan is exposing Pop for what he is - a good coach that was lucky enough with ping pong balls to land the best PF of all-time. Had that not happened it's possible that no one would even know who he was.

Phil Jackson should be the most overrated then, right?

    Manu - 33 yrs old
    Parker - 28
    Duncan - 35
    Jefferson - 30
    McDyess - 36
    -------------
    Blair - 22
    Hill - 24
    Neal - 26

Now is it clear why the Spurs lost?

The fact that the Spurs were tied for the best record overall tells me that Pop is not overrated.

This was a horrible matchup for San Antonio.

The Spurs won 60+ games this season. They have won more than 50 games every season he has been the coach for 82 games. They have four championships.

But I guess a guy can't be a great coach if he's ever had a great player on his roster.

I dont know if he is overrated, but having Tim freakin Duncan the entire time you are a head coach definitely made things easy for him.

It will be interesting to see what he can do once Timmy is done.

Great coach of all time. Every coach needs talent to win, and Pop did that when players were at their prime. Now Duncan and Manu are much older and the team does not have great defensive players. Adelman is great coach, but if he was coaching in Pop’s place for this series, it would be same result. Just like your signature said that Rockets just did not have size and defensive players, neither do Spurs. Grizzlies size and defense was just too much.

I just don't like what he did to the previous coach [Del Harris?]

Basically made him TANK to get Timmie and then Replaced him with himself.
THIS IS WHY COACHES LIKE RICK AND JVG DON'T TANK FOR THE BETTERMENT OF THE TEAM!! BECAUSE OF THE POP'S RULE AS I CALL IT!! No Loyalty to the coach.

So what I'm getting from the responses here is that unless a coach has a completely stacked team, he shouldn't be expected to beat the #8 seed with the best record in the NBA. Apparently just getting the best record in the NBA while having your entire rotation completely healthy the entire year is something to be commended for. Being eliminated in the 1st round 2 out of the last 3 years, and getting swept out of the second round (again with a healthy team), while having multiple all-stars on your team is just fine and the coach is beyond reproach in such a situation.

That was Bob Hill. And Pop already replaced Hill before the Spurs got Tim, Pop took over 18 games into the previous season of when Tim was drafted. So Pop was the one who went through the tank season.

Yes, I think DRob was just coming back from an injury when Pop fired Hill, and then soon after suffered another injury that shelved him for the rest of the season.

I think Pop is a good coach but I wonder on 2 things

    1) What happened to Blair? Didn't see much action when they could have used an active body/athlete to inject energy.

    2) How come Pop didn't double team Zach or aggressively helped to challenge Memphis 3pt shooting at the end

I enjoyed Pop looking like a homeless man that just woke up to find himself courtside at an NBA game.

Still, I think the title goes to Jerry Sloan. So much respect for someone who has been nothing but a loser his whole life.

I don't buy it. The guy has 4 championships and a winning team virtually every year in which he has coached.

I don't care who you have on your team, that is not easy to accomplish.

Blair is small and generally overrated, he couldn't help them against Grizzlies bigs. Splitter helped them more, but entered on the rotation late. One of the mistakes of Popovich this season, Splitter should have been part of the rotation during the RS. You can't expect to win in the playoffs with Bonner-Blair off the bench.

These series showed again what makes you have success at the playoffs: SIZE, defense, toughness, inside-oriented game.
