It seems like every time someone does a story on Clay Matthews, they manage to mention his hair as well.
I suppose it's time to refocus this thread on tonight's round 2. Given all the smoke signals, I'm going to say that the Texans are still going to be looking at front 7 guys. Wade apparently isn't anywhere near as concerned about the secondary....despite his 3-4 scheme putting heavy pressure on the secondary to lock down hot routes and quick passes. My personal, feline-disapproved-non-scout board: Austin or Pea at NT Akeem Ayers at OLB...and would think about Justin Houston if Ayers is gone Brandon Harris at CB Aaron Williams (I would earmark him for S) Don't like what I hear about Carter (UNC OLB), between the knee and dedication/drive concerns.
http://bleacherreport.com/articles/...or-the-houston-texans-on-day-two-of-the-draft decent article. I'd love to see another UA guy on the team with Reed, but i'm not sure i'd spend a 3rd rounder on him.
we are all about innovation! the new 8-3 defense will crush opposing lines. put the Texans down for 96 sacks this year and >80 ypg rushing. (and giving up 48 passing TDs). Meanwhile, on the other side of the ball, we use 5 TEs so often that "5 tight" becomes as much of a household term as "5 wide".
Don Banks mock draft for round 2 has the Texans takin CB Ras-I Dowling with Ayers, Paea, and Williams going 38,39,40 http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/20.../second-round-mock-draft/index.html?eref=sihp
Dowling would be nice. If not for all the injuries thid last year he would have been a 1st. He is very long, and ran a 4.4 at his pro day.
in a way this is good strategy. considering how bad the secondary is, they're likely to give up 48 passing TD's anyway.
Isn't that dude taller than Peterson? Wasn't everybody freaking out over drafting a DB that was "too tall" and their supposed failure rate?
I believe he's shorter than Peterson, but even if not the problem with Peterson was his weight/bulk at 220, not his height. The idea is that when he fills out in the next couple years, is he going to be able to play corner at 235 lb, or are you going to have to move him?
Say what you want about Gil Brandt (and the guy does annoy the hell out of me listening to him on the radio) but Brandt is still very good at evaluating talent, and he has Harris in the 65-75 range (i.e. beginning of third). That scares me a little bit.
I really hope we end up with Chris Carter. I have a feeling about this kid. I think he's going to be a strong pass rusher. edit: I think an ideal situation for me would be we get Brandon Harris in the 2nd and Chris Carter in the 3rd. We move Quinn to safety and sign Champ Bailey or Ike Taylor in FA (since I won't be stupid and even suggest Bobby Mac sign the best available FA lol). That won't make our defense elite, but it should be good enough to be competitive.
SI's 2nd round mock has the Texans taking Ras-I Dowling CB. Rahim Moore doesn't get selected in the mock, is it possible that he slips to us in the 3rd? Read more: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/20...ond-round-mock-draft/index.html#ixzz1KwcLyXIJ
SI projects Moore as a 3rd or 4th round pick. If he still is around in the 3rd after we get a guy like Carter, I'd try to trade back into rd 3 to get him.
Mock on bleacherreport has us taking Brooks Reed @ 42. Link Brooks Reed, OLB, Arizona The Texans made a questionable selection in the first round when they added J.J. Watt to their defensive end rotation with pick No. 11. Hopefully Round 2 fills a need in a starting role. Brooks Reed is a promising edge rushing prospect. We like this talents and find early Round 2 to be a better value for him. Pugs
