Clyde Drexler, wife and family were at a show I did last night. Afterwards we spoke for about an hour about the league, the Rockets, golf (I'm a neophyte) and comedy, what a class act!

One thing I found interesting was how much he loved Steve and his game, he said that Steve crosses people up just to cross them up "He get's them one time and that's not enough for him, he does it again and again."

I get the feeling that Kobe is his favorite player.

He told a funny Jordan story of how last year Voshon Lenard blocked his shot and sent Jordan tumbling to the ground, Jordan saw Clyde laughing, came over and whispered, "F*** you Clyde" apparantly they get along great. He thought less of Ming than I would have liked, but did give him credit for his short range shooting and thought he would pose problems defensively. Clyde gave limited props on his offensive game but hoped that he was wrong.

He didn't think the 94 or 95 Rockets could have been beaten by the Bulls even if Jordan hadn't retired. :D

He says that Kiki Vanderweigh is a cool guy, while his opinions of Dan Issel were less than favorable.

The funniest story was when he was explaining to me how Benny Anders got kicked off the UH basketball team for getting into a fight with a r****ded dude!

His wife was a patient sweetheart, and laughed at a story of when I was pulled off a flight as a standby passenger from NY so that they could get on.
    ;)

Clyde said that he was on hiatus right now, golfing and enjoying family life. He took my number and said that he wanted to keep in touch, I'll keep you guys posted!

    Nice stuff.

Yah this should be in the rockets forum, help break up the monotony of "Rocks get no respect" and multi-page scrub 4th string player threads.

btw AB, was that you I saw on Comedy Central not too long ago?

I remember that, what a moron. Benny could have been a very good player. What a waste of talent.

Nice post AB, thanks for sharing:)

Don't remember the exact bit. Just remember my ears perking up when I heard "from Houston" and then the dude on stage looked like a pic someone on here posted of you.

I remember laughing at the jokes and telling my wife, hey, that's "another brother"(and her perplexed look), but like names, I can't remember jokes or routines too well(except when I see repeats of course :) )

Funny, I thought "the glide" was some kind of inside term/lingo comedians use to describe the perfect flow of a set/bit/joke. :D Anyway, cool story AB.

That's a great story about Clyde. I really liked him, and it's good to hear about positive encounters with old Rockets.

Congrats on your gig, and winning over a great former Rocket as a new fan.

Cool story AB. The one time I met him, he seemed like a very genuine guy.

Definitely a sweet story AB! Man, Clyde has always been one of my favorite players in college and the NBA. I still remember him throwing down some of the most spectacular and vicious dunks (along with Benny Anders) during his Phi Slamma Jamma years. I'm just happy the guy got to retire with a ring.

Now that's a post worth reading. Drexler is so cool. Too bad Houston drafted MaCray instead of Clyde.
