One week to go. Here are my guesses, barring no other major developments...

    Senate: Dems +2
    House: Dems +3 (need 6)
    Texas: Perry and Cornyn
    Florida: Bush

Upset Special: Clement over Alexander in TN

    Senate: Dems. +1
    House: Reps. +2
    Texas: Perry, Cornyn, Sharp, Watson
    Florida: Bush
Surprise: Can't really think of one...how about we won't know the results of the Senate race here until deep into the night.

The House and Senate elections will be real interesting to watch. A recent TV survey show that something like 43% of the electorate is concerned about the economy (which is getting no national news coverage at the moment) versus 28% is concerned about Iraq (which is getting mentioned as much as possible by the White House and the national press).

One would think a mid-term election with a weak economy would favor the Democrats (the opposing party) by default. The fact that Bush Admin is shifting the issue to sabor rattling against Iraq will certainly help the Republican cause. But how much?

If I had to guess, I think the Dems will retain control of the Senate, with the worst case being another Rep Senator defecting to give the Dems the majority.

Outside of Texas, I am most interested in the New Jersey and Minnesota Senate races. Both races have had last minute replacements for the Democrat candidate.

In Texas, I wonder how close a race Kirk can make of it.

The Dems will keep the Senate and the Repubs will keep the House.

My upset prediction is that Ron Kirk will win the senate race here in Texas.

And yes, my testicles are rather large compared to most....horses.:D

There are definitely some strange angles coming into this election.

Yahoo News: Elections May Not Be Settled Nov. 5

Among the highlights (or lowlights depending on how you look at it):

-Democrats in Hawaii are urging voters to elect a deceased candidate, thus necessicating another election in January, since she passed away after the deadline for replacing candidates had expired.

-A Republican Senator in Alaska is running for Governor and, if elected, will resign from the Senate and get to name his own replacement.

-In Ohio, former Rep Jim Traficant is running for Congress as an independent from jail. Due to his felony conviction, he cannot vote for himself and, if elected, would be the first inmate in 200 years to be elected.

    Senate: GOP +1
    House: GOP +2
    Texas: All GOP
    Florida: Bush
Suprise: Coleman over Mondale in Minnesota

For the sake of the nation, lets pray that the GOP takes the Senate and the House. The Democrats are obstructionist and need to be freed of any power that they might have!

Um, the title of the thread is "predictions," not "wishes," and I hope you're using the word "pray" as a rhetorical device and not suggesting that the almighty take sides.

If it's the latter, then let me respond by pulling out some Exorcist whup-ass:

"BACK TO HELL YOU WAR-MONGERING, HUNGER-INDUCING, FATCAT-FAVORING SPAWN OF SATAN REPUBLICANS!" (Except, of course, for the ones I like as personal friends, all moderates in Congress, a few posters here, Uncle Bill, and Cousin John.)

Thanks. BrianKagy calling RM95 out, about as predictable as Greg Davis' offense.

Sorry to ruffle any feathers, but when I said "pray" it was a metaphor and not a religous statement. As far as the GOP being racist, I take offense to that in the sense that as far as I know there are no former KKK members in the Senate (Byrd) that are Republicans. There is no need for name calling; can't we have a political debate without getting nasty? There are some good Democrats, just not any in politics.

I don't really think Republicans are racist (as a group). I should've waited for clarification on your pray comment. My bad.

We can have a debate (probably ;) ) without getty nasty, but it won't start off well when you say there aren't any good Democrats in politics.

There are some, I like John Breaux of Louisana, and Zell Miller of Georgia, even Max Baucus is pretty good... But Hillary Clinton and that type of democrat I could do without.... I am always supportive of a moderate, even hard core right wing republican can get on my nerves.

No problem. I apologize for goofily flying off the handle with my satanic rant.

By the way, there have been a number of Republicans (Barr and Lott to name two), with ties to the Council of Conservative Citizens, which was begat by the White Citizens Council which was begat by the KKK. I think Byrd renounced his membership while Babe Ruth was still playing ball.

I'm thinking the Congress will remain in the same hands as now (Dems control Senate. GOP controls House). Wouldn't surprise me to see the percentages to remain essentially the same as now.

    Bush will win in Florida.

Ron Kirk will win in Texas.

    Perry will win in Texas.

These predictions are obviously biased by what I want to happen. Except that I don't like Rick Perry.
