Ok, the man can block shots, but how about his other skills? I can't figure out if he's a future star or a future "pretty good player"
His shot blocking ability alone will make him a solid role player at the worst. If he can develop some consitant low post moves and a more consistant outside show then he can be an All Star type of player. He has plenty of time to do this but he is going to have to work each summer to perfect those moves. Currently he is listed at 6-10, 232. If he could add 8 more pounds of muscle next summer that would really help in during the season banging inside with the other rugged power forwards. Chris
he's already alot better than a pretty good player. he has the tools to be a future star if he continues to grow.
I think that he will be a star, but not like a big superstar, like Duncan and Webber. I think that he will average around 17-20 ppg, 8-11 boards and 3 blocks per game throughout his career.
Think more like 15 pts 9bds 2.5blk 1.3 steal will be where he levels out at. Plus he plays with too many guys who like to fire the rock.
HoRockets, Those look like Mutumbo's numbers. I would say he would be the defensive player of the year with those type numbers. With the quality of forwards in the league, it may be hard to consistently make the All Star team without some offense as well though.
all around needs to improve....his shooting % is horrid! needs to put up some better numbers in that department to be considered other than a d-specialists or quit shooting as much!
I would say his chances of becoming an annual all-star are great. If he can get some consistent range on his jumper, he'll be one of the best SFs in the West. 7+ boards, 18+ points, 2+ blocks is good enough to get himself in the ASG.
As good as he wants to get. He's young, athletic, and has shown with the preseason that he is willing to improve aspects of his game.
Needs to improve his shooting and his ball handling and then just maturation of his body. The sky is the limit, it is all up to him. DaDakota
I say he has the tools to become an All-Star. He just has to work at it. If it wasn't for Yao he'd get a lot more talk. We can't forget our luck from last year's draft as well as this past one.
If he can hit the turnaround jumper and develop a hook shot he can become effective in the paint. Shotblocking is fine but he needs to keep on working with his footwork and low post moves to become a consistant player. I hope he can become a Jermaine O'Neal type player. He is young but I hope he will get stronger and become more aggressive on the offensive end during the season.
Apparently that little J he has is looking much better, and he's added 17lbs since joining us. Assuming he works on his jumper and his body for one more year, I'd say he's an All Star. But I don't see how he can take Duncan out of the PF spot on the All Star team. What COULD happen is this: Griffin is a much more exciting player than Duncan with his blocks and dunks. So maybe the fans vote him in to see some spectacular pgo-stick blocks? I see him as a McDyess with better height and better shotblocking. BUT, still has to develop his body and his handling.
You guys have to remeber he is young really young he is suppost to be a junior in college this year. The time you should really judge him is after 3 more years in the league. Then you could compare him to say Mobley who spent all 4 years in college. Except for Griffen he would have spent them in the NBA. And lastly he will need to develop his offense, which he will he is really young as stated above. But he has exactly what the rockets need right now and that is defense. The Rockets gave up way to many layups and that will change with Yao and Griffen. I think he has a chance in a couple of years to be a allstar. He will probably lead in blocks. But needs ok stats in other areas.
IMHO, I believe Eddie Griffin can become a very special player in this league. One has to look at it from a future standing point, however. Like peleincubus mention, EG is young, and he's still developping a game. He's also developing mentally and physically to the league. This year he will have a lot more energy, game in and game out b/c he's already been aclimated to the speed and length of the NBA season. We'll see the benefits of it soon. As for talent, Griff has tons of it. He is a super-talent, if you will. The kid can jump out of the gym as many have put it. He's tall, and agile, quick, and explosive. And it looks like he still has the ability to grow, and definitely has the ability to add more muscle mass, and get stronger. He physically has everything, or will have everything you could want in a power foward. But right now, he's just getting by on that athleticism alone. This is why he is so dominant at rebounding and shot-blocking. These things come naturally, almost easy to him, and it's only going to get better as he adds strength and fundamentals. He will soon become an offensive threat as well. Sooner or later his jump shot will gain more and more consistency, and he will have those offensive and defensive fundementals to go along with his freakish athleticism. All of this combined could turn into something special. It sounds like he has the drive and passion to be the best, he just needs to display a little emotion on the court every now and again. But, I do believe with all of his natural gifts, and with much needed experience, Eddie Griffin will become the All-Star calliber player we all hope he can become. Nuf said.
