In light of some recent discussion of whether we should take Yao back if he could pass the physical next season. I am just curious how Clutchfans feel.

Just a simple question: Who do you predict will play more meaningful basketball in the NBA (NOT D-League)on whatever team?

I also answered Thabeet; I don't think Yao will ever be able to play meaningful minutes again. It makes me very sad to post that, but it feels like it is the truth.

Actually, I'm not sure how to define meaningful, unless it's the simplest (ie more minutes, steadily playing game after game versus productive, helpful play within a game). I can see the new coach - whomever that will be - playing Thabeet as a backup with solid minutes most nights to try to develop him.

Now, will Thabeet play meaningful minutes in the second definition (productive, helpful play within the game)? That's the real question here.

If Yao doesn't retire, he's getting minutes.

Yao will probably play about 48 minutes of basketball before getting hurt again.

Thabeet won't play at all in any game that is not a blowout. Brad Miller or Jordan Hill are better.

I answered C, just because I don't want to see either one on the roster next season.

I'm going with Thabeet on this one for obvious reasons.

Wait. Isn't Yao's contract over? Let him walk. Unless David Kahn agrees to S&T Beasley, Johnson, and a bunch of picks for Yao.

Please note. It's "on whatever team" in the NBA. It doesn't have to be the Rockets. Even if you don't want Yao back, you can still predict that he will play meaningful NBA basketball somewhere, more than Thabeet will. Or Morey might trade Thabeet and he might break out elsewhere.

Shane Battier, at age 32, will play more meaningful NBA minutes from this point on than Thabeet ever will.

Chance of Yao being healthy = 0.1%
Chance of Thabeet learning to play basketball = 0.01%

With an extra long summer to work out with, i think Thabeet is going to surprise a lot of people.

    Meaningful? Yao.

MORE? Hard to say. Which is sad.
