Ive been loving these articles. They're written by an annonymous NBA star and usually give pretty good insight on NBA players' lives that we never get to see and also a look into how some of them think. The latest one talks about trash talking, specifically about how Player X feels that there isn't enough of it in the game as well as "the code" on trash talking. And he calls KG a punk and a coward for how he talks trash but backs down easy. Also says LeBron sucks at talking trash and that it's close to impossible to get in Tim Duncan's head. It's an ESPN Insider article, not sure what the posting rules are for articles like this so here's a few of the highlights along with a link. http://insider.espn.go.com/insider/blog?name=player_x&id=6396873 For those who have read the other Player X columns, any guesses on who it is? Ive seen some decent speculation that it may be Jason Terry, my personal random guess is Lamar Odom, but I don't really know. Interesting stuff, though.
No rule's on insider articles, post away. That first quote is about as donkey as it gets. Larry Bird is the only white player to trash talk? It's a "black" thing? Give me a ****ing break.
No offense but this "Player X" sounds like a b****, taking shots in the dark like that... Dude probably doesn't have a ring
Joakim Noah? <iframe title="YouTube video player" width="640" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/xa6rgPte4S8" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
LOL @ Artest whispering in players' ears. I can imagine it, sticking to guys like glue all quarter and then when the guy gets on a streak, he whispers "I love you" or "you look good today, damn!" That'll really mess a guy up. I reckon it wouldn't be past Artest to try something like that.
But if a white player felt inclined to distinguish something based on race? They'd stop the damn column and the mighty Rev. Sharpton would be calling for his identity.... It doesn't bother me that he said it, even though I think that's pretty silly. What bothers me is one race being held accountable at all times and the other getting a free pass.... For instance, Shaq's rap....ESPN didn't even bother to mention the racist portions for like the first week. Only what he said about Bryant. He calls out a whole race of people, but gets away cause he is a "big goofball" while the media no better so only focus on the singling out of one human being he offended. /rant I think it's a Laker....some other columns have pointed towards it and the fact he basically just slyly gives Kobe props for how he responds to trash-talk but doesn't give it to anyone else sort of only firms my notion.
Denni Rodman was known for getting in guys' heads that way; it's believed that that's one of the tricks he used to defend Karl Malone successfully in the Finals, along with the grappling and close quarters defense.
That's my initial read of it, too, a whole lotta praise for the Lakers. But Player X also wrote a column about a month or so ago about NBA refs and kinda called out Kobe for travelling alot, so that makes me question that angle a bit.
is trash-talking really a very important skill which makes a player or a race significantly more superior than another?
