Do you believe our 2008-2009 team was a contender?

Discussion in 'Houston Rockets: Game Action & Roster Moves' started by meh, Apr 21, 2011.

?

Was the 2008-2009 team worth keeping at the time?

  1. Yes: That team was a contender, and I'm glad they kept the team together

  2. Nope: If I were a GM, I would've traded T-Mac/Yao and rebuilt then and there

Well I just said why we almost won. I dont know why its hard for some people to see that LA were clearly a better team with or without Yao and Deke.

    Tmac < kobe
    yao >>>> bynum
    Scola << Pau
    Brooks > Fisher
    Artest >>>> Ariza

and our bench with landry, wafer, and deke had just as much depth and explosiveness as the lakers did.

remember tmac (before his injury) was still considered great, and was an allstar

Artest's suffocating defense wouldve driven kobe mad while yao powered over a less experienced bynum and a still healthy mcgrady and brooks wouldve been running all over the older fisher and inexperience ariza.

of course that wouldve been the dream scenario, and i know the lakers were still the best in the league, but not by much.

I'd say we matched up pretty well against them, and the fact that we were the only team in the entire playoffs to take them to a 7th game shows that, if we had a completely healthy roster, we wouldve beaten them, and eventually wouldve gotten that ring

You were not paying attention. We would have beat LA if Yao would have stayed healthy. You can't call yourself a fan and continue hating.

Why the hell would I be hating?

I hate when people bring up the hating card when you dont agree with them.

I think he is, and I agree that the Lakers played down to our level in that series. AND I think we would have lost even if we had Yao. Still a great series though.

I am. I think it's possible to believe both that the Rockets played their hearts out AND that the Lakers didn't try their best. I don't think one negates the other.

Yeah and I'm agreeing with you.

A win is a win, no matter how many ways you tried to spin it into something negative.

Lakers will always have that excuse when they lose, oh we have a better team, therefore we weren't trying. Fucck them

Yes a win is a win I was just pointing out that the Lakers were a much better team than us even more so without Yao.

We win the championship if Yao stays healthy that season, plain and simple.

If T-Mac was healthy that whole season we wouldn't have played the Lakers until the WCF...

No,I don't think we were good enough to win it all even if Yao didn't get injured. Tracy was lost to us,because of his physical and mental issues. We over achieved against the Lakers at home, but we were weaker on the road without Yao.

The difficulty the Rockets are having finding new all stars shows you why they didn't want to give up on the ones they had. They had to build around those guys and take a shot at winning it all.
