I don't get all the bashing...I'm by no means a fan, but who cares whether she is a sl*t, or dresses like one or not. I DO care that so many younger girls are influenced by her image, but that's another issue. Her sexual practices don't interest me in the least, although her body does make some of the images a little more interesting. I can see all the Spears bashing because of the hypocracy about her claims versus the image she projects time and again, but as far as I know Aguilera has never made the same claims...So what's the big deal? So she likes to have sex a lot, so what?
Isn't that the definition of most celebrities? Don't we live in a culture that advocates and rewards just that? I mean, what is Madonna praised for, her musical talent, or her 'persona', 'willpower', and 'marketing genius'...What was most of her career based on, musical talent or shock value and 'determination'? What are most 'reality ' tv shows but a bunch of "immature, immoral (people) trying so hard to get publicity"?
Hmm why are you labeling all of us? For those people who call Christina trash, do you know their views on Madonna as well? Should I lump you in the category of sanctimonius tripe? Is the soapbox really neccessary? You do realize the people on the BBS isn't representative of the whole population? I believe Christina is phony and trashy, and I'm also annoyed how some girls (like the ones on TRL...) look up to her as some demigod of the whores. Other people might disagree, but quit labeling groups of people and creating blanket reasonings for it.
1) Charecterizing a culture as X does not inherently assume that all facets of said culture can be defined as X...For example I could say that we live in a materialistic culture without saying that everyonr within our culture is materialistic. ( Both fairly safe assumptions.) 2) Why are you assuming that my comment about our culture was based on the BBS? There is no connection, nor does there appear to be...Re-read my point before arguing with it. Nowhere do I claim that my comment about our society is based on the BBS, and in fact, it would appear to be the opposite, as I am claiming that we rewars celebs for being what Manny claims BBS'ers are bashing Aguilera for. 3) What group of people am I labeling, aside from society as a whole? And if you are telling me that I am supposed to stop judging my society because you have, in your judgment, decided that that is unacceptable, I would tell you to get control of your own high horse before telling me to get off mine.
I think that most celebs are famouse for looks, and marketing power, but I still don't think that it's right for a person to dress like a prostitute just to get more attention.
Macbeth, I left behind the original post. Your reply was carrying over to your original post. You said you don't "get the bashing", and your reasoning behind it carried over to the mainstream's perception of other celebrities that might have the same image like Madonna but aren't in quesiton. The point is that you don't know the opinion of people here that have done "the bashing" on the matters that you have given examples of. If your posts have continuity, then can't someone assume that you're addressing the people in the topic that have "done the bashing"? Wrong, what I'm telling you is to stop using deceptive reasonings to prove some moral point.
The Madonna reference was in response to Manny's opinion on why people in here don't like CA...My original post was just questioning the bashing of CA for being a sl*t, which, my point being, is entirely her prerogative, and not ( unlike others) inconsistent with anything she purports to represent. My 2 posts were addressing 2 entirely different issues; the idea of us bashing someone for their personal sexual attitudes, and the idea of us bashing someone for being " immature, immoral, and trying to hard to get attention." I objected to the first, and pointed out that the basis for the second is fairly endemic. I am trying hard to avoid sarcasm or invective here, but please do me the courtesy of trying to avoid telling me what to say and how to say it. If you want to raise objections to my positions, fine, but I would appreciate you not giving me directives.
What I'm saying is that while it might be a perpetuation of a materialistic culture that I abhor, it isn't really fair to hold young celebrities responsible for responding to the demand that is out there...If we ( as a culture) make the rules by what we term as successfull, and what we respond to, ( like Madonna's career) we can hardly blame others for playing by them, however we despise the outcome. Do I respect the Christina Aguilera's of the world? Hardly...but I am also uncomfortable with either subjectively laying the blame at her feet when she is a result, not a cause, or assuming the position of moral superiority with regards to her personal life.
Followed by Trash, Trash, Trash I guess the only thing that will sell Rolling Stone now is sex and skin, instead of ummmmmmmmmm...... MUSIC MAYBE?!?!?!? Nice article in this issue w/ Tom Petty who is pissed off about all of this kinda stuff..........
So, like, when I have a bad day, I like to disfigure my body with razors. It kind of just feels good to bleed, you know? Pretty soon, you just forget what it was that brought you down .
Skanky, but I'll rent her porno when she makes it after her singing career goes south. But I'll only rent it on dollar day!
I think she really does a great job, of helping women stop being objectified. She really lets her talent speak for itself. Also she seems very deep and complicated. She probably has a great philisophical mind, and doesn't just concern herself with trivial things. All in all she's wonderful, I'm glad that we live in a society that elevates her to the position she's in. She really deserves it.
"Did you see or touch any monkeys?" Can someone explain this running "joke" on Letterman? Now I know why I don't watch Letterman. It sucks.
this thread has turned for the worse. i haven't seen pictures in a LOOOOOOOONG TIME! okay...so for those that are allowed to look at boobies. http://www.fhm.com/img/reporter/bigeye/15aug/boobs.swf don't look if you aren't allowed!!! (such as under 18 or whatever, i'm 18 tomorrow, so i'm allowed).
not sure if this is just an extension of the "would you like to buy a monkey" thing he was doing for a long time which came from his role in cabin boy where that was his only line. man, cabin boy, there's not many movie's i don't like, but this was definitely one of them. thank goodness none of my own money was involved in watching it.
Oooh, that was the cause of his Acadamy Award hosting debacle in which he had respected actors like Paul Newman recite the "buy a monkey" line in their own unique style. Letterman was lambasted for that.
