They actually believe that Yao will play for the vet minimum.

"Its a simple question. For this question we will say Yao is to get the Vet Minimum."

It's a simple question, but lets be real. Yao will not play for the vet minimum.

Why did you post in this thread then?
This thread is based on the assumption that Yao gets the vet's minimum which is worth debating because no one in their right mind would want to sign Yao for the MLE.

Actually a lot of teams will be offering Yao the MLE some might even offer him close to 10 million per season. Chinese companies advertising at the TC pay around 6 million per season and without Yao that money goes away and I'm not even talking about the tens/hundreds of millions les makes in China because of Yao.

Remember how much money this teams pays Brad Miller. 3 years almost 5 million per season. Remember the contract Steve Francis got to rejoined the Rockets. Again sizable money.

And Yao is a unique talent. He may be injury prone but when he plays it take 2-3 guys to guard him and keep him from scoring easily.

What makes you all think Yao will sign up with Rox for that 1M,how about Tmac last year and this year.with 1M,Yao could sign up with any team in NBA.
I would say Yao is finished with Rox,just like Tmac last year.next time,he shows up at Toyota center, who knows what team's uniform he is going to wear.

I posted no, because he will require more than the vet min, i think he will want more than the MLE.

If he was to accept the MLE, AND that still allowed us to get another good-starting-material-center. Then yes.

But i don't want Yao if:

Singing him blocks another center signing.
He signs for more than the MLE

That's not a 100% given. Ignoring the fact that Yao may never physically be able to play another game at the NBA level, there's this little item called a Luxury Tax. Which I doubt goes away in the next CBA.

That means that Yao would cost a team double whatever his stated salary would be. "Every team in the league" might not be willing to cough up $2+M and a roster spot for a player who at present is a very unknown commodity.

So what. They pay Yao 1 million and 1 million in lux tax for a total bill of 2 million but gets 6 millions in ad banner $$$ from Chinese companies. That's a profit of 4 million. Pretty sure every team in the NBA would take Yao for the vet min.

Forget about the vet min. I only see Yao signing for the vet min to play with a championship contender like Miami, LAL or a similar team.

I do in some capacity but it puts us in a predicament.
If we are gonna go after a center like Gasol or Jordan, they are going to want to start, and if we resign Yao, he is going to want to start. But if he gets injured...again... Then we are stuck with nothing...again.

    why not stop right there.

The Rockets have been playing with IF for too long

Exactly. One thing you CAN be sure of with Yao is that he is going to get hurt.

If you put the "if healthy" portion of this post in a 10,000 size font and triple-bolded it, it still would not communicate effectively its relevance to the rest of the sentence. This is like saying, "if Kirstie Alley (sp?) lost a bunch of weight, she could be on the cover of next year's swimsuit edition."

I only see Yao coming back, if Adelman stayed to redeem himself for 2 missed seasons.

I don't see him starting on a rebuilding team with Mike Brown or a novice head coach.

It's back to China for him.

Adelman out greatly lessens the chances we re-sign him, for any price, IMO
