Of course I want him back. And to those who want him gone can go suck a nut. He's a hall of fame coach and you dont care if he comes back? And dont give me all this crap that we need a defensive minded coach. What's that difference between the rockets and and all playoffs teams? They all have a legit defensive minded shot blocking center which we clearly do not have. You bring in a Tyson Chandler, marc gasol, camby type of center and were right back in contender status. Seriously, we have a great offense, great system implemented by adelman, now we need to add just one more piece to help out the defense side.
Of course any other coach would've benched Battier and Brooks for Chase and undrafted rookie Ish Smith. You didn't know that?
When Brooks is going 1-8 and is getting abused on D night in and night out? Yeah, I expect coaches to take him out. Anybody who defends brooks getting 20 mins a night is an idiot. Want me to pull out his averages for you?
The Utah game got to me, Brooks playing such heavy minutes at the expense of Martin was just mindboggling. I know he wanted to get AB going but we were playing for our playoff lives and he was willing to sacrifice a vital game...luckily AB shot himself to the bench and Martin saved our a$$.
unless some other amazing coach becomes available, i like rick-the-ruler. i think lots of people will question rick as a defensive coach. i'm not sure thats the way to look at it though... rick plays to his teams' strengths. we have lots of great individual defenders (hayes, lee, lowry) but the pace of play dictates more scoring. we play a faster pace because we dont have tons of size. as our roster changes, i see our team transforming into a great defensive team as well. and i think/hope rick can help us get there.
This all the way, though I don't necessarily want Adelman out. I'm torn because I don't know if there's anyone that much better. But Adelman is a really bad coach in terms of sub patterns and using players. Anyone that buys into his system completely, as has been shown in this final Rockets game stretch, can really play great. Yet if we're so reliant on a coach that can barely adapt, I don't know if he's the best fit for someone like Morey who will bring in talent without necessarily being the best fits for a particular system.
WOW an overwhelming majority. I thought it might be closer... seems when JVG left it was a much closer vote. Personally, I think Adelman is an awesome coach. I honestly don't think there could possibly be a better coach available.
How quickly we forget... http://bbs.clutchcity.net/showthread.php?t=178468&page=2 Actually based on this poll it seems like we haven't forgotten - a huge % of people still like Rick!
We lead the league with 23.8 assists per game. That is the impact Rick Adelman has had on this team. Letting him go would be a big mistake.
I was a hard core Van Gundy fan, as well. What Adelman has done is just awesome, as far as I'm concerned. He has put these teams together on the court. I wish we were given the chance to continue before Yao's unfortunate injury in the playoffs year before last? What I love the most about Adelman is the offense that creates so many easy buckets. I dig the high post passing to the cutters, open 3 shooters. I think it would be a huge mistake not to resign him, if he is interested in coming back. Adelman doesn't want a point guard like Paul that needs the ball in his hands the majority of the possesion each time down the court. I love watching Paul play the game but I'm not sure if he would be the best option after the year Lowry has had. Letting him go would be a big mistake.[/QUOTE]
Any coaching change is going to lead to growing pains. That means bad early season losses. I don't this team can sustain losing like that enough to recover in time to make a run for the playoffs. Look at the year Adelman replaced JVG. It took a 22-game win streak in February to get us into the playoffs as a 5 seed. That means that we REALLY sucked before that point. And honestly I don't think any other coach could have pulled a single-season turnaround like that. Adelman probably handles roadbumps in a season better than any other available coach because of that baseballesque mentality that it's a marathon not a sprint. Among all the coaches in the league today probably only Phil Jackson and Doc Rivers also share this attribute.
I didn't like JVG that much but admit he did a good job. But Rick, took essentially a similar situation as JVG had when TMac and Yao were out, and he WON games that way. A higher winning percentage than any coach in Rockets HISTORY......I mean....my gawd, if you are looking for a Tom Thibedeuax, you should have hired him when they ran JVG out of town. Rick Adelman is a GREAT coach, and if you give him a quality starting Center, this team can contend....they only lack that centerpiece to make them a top team in the west. DD
You make some good points, I believe Rick would still be playing his favorites if Morey hadn't of forced his hand with the 2 trades. Budinger & Lee probably benefitted the most with the increased playing time & Lowry's game went up a notch too. Patterson didn't really get his opportunity until Scola got injured, there are nights when we see Jordan Hill & then stretches where he doesn't play at all. I was a little upset that Rick didn't play Thabeet any miutes, even though there were some games that he could of played the last few minutes. Does Rick have TWill in his doghouse? Rick has shown to be an excellent basketball coach, but he tends to play his trusted players & struggles to give the younger players a chance. I have a feeling that there is pressure from upper management to play these younger players, but RA refuses to play them. I was amazed that he only played 7 players in the O.T. lost to Dallas.
The fans want him back. The players want him back. Let's see if the owner listens. We all know Bob McNair couldn't care less about what the fans want. The city could turn on Les especially after his sinister laughing episode on TV
