I don't know the right pieces, but somehow trade up for Enes Kanter, and pray he has NBA knees. Some say he's a Horford look-alike.

I'd love Bogut, or Howard obviously. I also wouldn't mind seeing Varajao, I know he's more of a hybrid player than anything else, but he could buckle down the Center position.

I honestly don't know if I'd be willing to trade a prospect like Kantor for Lopez... If the trade went down as you proposed, I think we'd be worse off.

From what part of your anatomy did you pull out this gem? Scola is "just a mediocre rebounder." Oh, really? Is this the same Luis Scola who's averaged 8 boards a game in 30 minutes for his career? The same Scola who has has 21 games with rebounds in the double digits this season? Mediocre?

With the way DeAndre Jordan sounded yesterday in his interview, and Chris Kaman wanting his starting job back, and cheapness of Donald Sterling; DJ could be viable possibility. If offered the right amount in FA.

Deandre would be the Ideal center this team is looking for young, athletic and a home town kid who grew up watching the Rockets, wishing he could play for them... not bad.

I'd say mediocre is the perfect word. Dude gets 8 boards a game on one of the shortest teams(as far as actual playing time goes) in the nba.

Doesn't mean he sucks as a player, but it is the truth, that part of his game is weak.

    Ranks:

22nd in the nba in RPG
37th in Reb/48(chuck hayes and jordan hill are ahead of him)
    T-70th in Rebound Rate

Interesting list of centers compiled. I am curious about Gasol as to why you think his offers would/could be matched by the Grizzlies.

If i remember right, they signed Gay to the max, and Z-Bo's contract is being negotiated as of this writing. It looks like Z-Bo's going to look to get paid seeing as he's statistically done great, made the playoffs, and it'd probably his last big pay day due to his age (turning 30 mid way through the year).

Unless Z-Bo's looking to take a page from the Miami 3 and take a pay cut for M. Gasol, it'd be interesting how they work the numbers to squeeze 3 max or almost max players when all is said and done. I'm not sure they'd tie themselves up for that much with 2012 FA coming up and effectively signing 3 Joe Johnson/Andre Igoudala caliber players for max $$$. Then again, it's not like Memphis has franchise players lining up to go there so they just might for lack of a better alternative.

3 names that I think are gettable --

    1) Gortat -- I love the idea of a Scola for Gortat trade. Considering the rest of the Suns' roster, I think they may actually make that deal.

    2) Nene -- he may not seem gettable on the surface, but analyze and look at the Denver roster/situation. Nene is going to get overpaid, the Nuggets already have two centers in Andersen and Mozgov, and they do not have a PF with Kenyon Martin's contract expiring. Couple these facts to their need to pay both RFA Afflalo and Wilson Chandler, and it makes me think Houston could work a sign and trade with Denver for Nene in which the centerpiece going back to Denver would be Scola.

    4) McGee -- the following idea is crazy, however... If the Rockets take on the last fully guaranteed year of Rashard Lewis's contract(next year) along with McGee, and then send back Scola and expiring contracts, I think the Wizards may make such a deal. They could have Blatche play the 5. I think the Wizards may actually do such a deal -- could be wrong though.

It's not about upgrading the three bigs; it's about making one of them into a defensive center that can protect the rim.

I'm sure we could get Hassan Whiteside for this year's 2nd-round pick. He is another Thabeet, at most, without the big salary.

There aren't that many true centers out there. That's how it is these days. Hill can easily fit into this group, with another year, maybe year and a half. As such (likely to be a reasonable center, compared to the rest of TODAYS'centers), he has real trade value. If we could trade him and Thabeet for Kaman (I haven't seen how long Kaman's contract is for), they'd probably cut Thabeet after this season, but keep Hill.

He's the center of the past, not the future.

Kaman is pale, injured all the time, and will be in his 30s, if we get him on a contract extension. He will be Brad Miller's replacement. LOL.

Considering Kanter's Greg Oden knees, the better pick would be Jonas Valanciunas if we could move up about five or six draft spots. He will be playing when Kanter is the answer to a trivia question.

Also, there are young centers that weren't mentioned like Kyrylo Fensenko, Kosta Koufas and B.J. Mullen. However, I hope the Wolves draft Kanter making Darko Milicic available.

We can draft a center there two worth looking at :

Enes Kanter looks really skilled and polished I think he does everything well and has an above average post up game .. Can somebody from UK back me up here ?? the only nock on him is that he hasnt played for a while and he hasnt played in a strong surrounding where you can evalute him fairly ..

the second is Jonas V-something (cant spell it) he looks very scrapy like a europeon J Noah .. he has great defensive awarenss but's is less than average defensively .. he has the tools to develop a post game and needs to put more weight plus he's numbers are not great ..

I think Kanter looks like the type of player Morey might draft but there no way he's drafting Jonas V espically that he might stay in europe for a year or two

Marc Gasol is a possibility because of the Grizzles' financial issues right now. They can only sign back Z-bo or Gasol because they owe so much to other players. We should offer a 5yr-60mil deal to gasol and see if the griz have the money to match it. With the money for our exp. contracts, we should be able to sign back Yao (cheaper of course) as well.

Unless he's included in a trade, we're definitely re-signing Hayes. It's not like he's going to ask for $7 million.

Glad to see the Marcus Cousin thing. It's another shot. Hill, Thabeet, Cousin, this year's draft, plus what DM can find in the sofa cushions... something has to break.

If Scola is a mediocre rebounder, how about Marc Gasol, one of the centers suggested here as a 'solution'?

In the same playing time, this season Scola has 8.2 rpg and Gasol 7 rpg.

And in career, Gasol 7.8 rpg in 32.7 mpg, Scola 8.0 rpg in 30mpg....

So, what would you say of Marc Gasol as a rebounder?

DM should be aggressive in getting a legit C this offseason..even those powerhouses will still compete in acquiring a quality C like the Celtics and Heat.

I would see Brook Lopez as a perfect fit for this team.

He's a fairly good weakside/help shotblocker. He's not the most physical presence on the defensive end, but we'd be pairing him with Chuck Hayes (most likely) - which should work out pretty well.
Very good midrange jumper and solid scoring in the post. You'd probably say he's got a "fair" passing game as well.

Put it this way, if you were to effectively trade Scola + picks for Lopez, then our frontcourt is essentially the same but bigger.
I don't see Lopez being 'worse' than Scola defensively - and he's a much superior shot-blocker. I think it's a wash on the offensive end too.

Scola/Hayes is a scary thought to start the season with again (even with Patterson playing backup)
Lopez/Hayes with Patterson as backup is a happy thought to kick off the season...
