What should I look for in a used truck to drive around town?

I need a cheap, reliable full-sized pickup truck to drive around town and haul crap when I need to. Very basic.

    My budget is $1500ish.

I can work on cars but prefer not to, so I'd like something that's easy to repair.

What's good in that price range? What's still on the road?

    Thanks.

Yes... completely agree... you can abuse the hell out of them and put 300,000 miles on them.

I think anything in that range is going to be quite a rag. You might be better off renting one when you need it.

$1400 seems like a bit much for that pig. I'm not a fan of the 302 in a truck. Try to find an in line 6. it's just a strong(maybe stronger) than a 302 and more reliable, better on gas yadda yadda.

    Get a Toyota truck.

Do a Google search for "Top Gear Killing A Toyota" and you will be convinced that those tucks are indestructible lol.

I like Toyota trucks, but they aren't big enough for me. I need to haul crap.

Yeah, I thought it was a bit steep too.

How about this one? It's a V8 but looks clean. I won't pay 2k for it, but I'll certainly try to talk them down.

Ford kind of killed the golden goose with me when it put out those POS Exploders - I had a 96. But I realize that trucks are a different animal. I'm open to whatever, and the easier to work on, the better. No brand loyalty here in that realm.

yep. would be perfect as a spare truck. you should be able to get it for about $1500-$1600

if he gets $2k for that truck then I should get about $4k for mine. hmmm.

We just got a 2003 Silverado for $2300,

136,000 miles. 2500HD. Nice truck for a work truck, I'm a fan of that newer body style too. It was a daily on lot work truck for Bison down in Houston.
