Looking at the schedules below and the current records on what needs to be done for the Rockets to make the playoffs. The Rockets have to win 3 more games than Memphis as the Rockets have the series with Memphis. For the Rockets to beat out the Hornets to the playoffs they have to clinch the series against them on April 6th, this would allow the Rockets to only finish the remaining schedule with 3 more wins than the Hornets. If the Rockets don't win on April 6th the Rockets would have to finish with 4 more wins than the Hornets in the remaining schedule due to the Hornets having a better division record The Hornets look to have the harder schedule, so if the Rockets beat the Hornets we will also want Memphis to beat the Hornets. Phoenix and Utah games the Hornets should win. The Hornets injury to West could see Utah pull a surprise win, perhaps Milsap will tear up Landry. The only danger game which could be an easy win for the Hornets is the Dallas game, I think because they might rest players if they are not in the hunt for the 2nd seed. Having said that Dallas also may rest players against the Rockets too. If the Rockets lose against the Hornets it is hard to say whether we want the Hornets to beat Memphis or lose to them when they face each other. If Mephis lose to the Hornets it could be the only loss in their final 5 games which is not good enough for the Rockets. Portland game for Memphis will be important due to tiebreaker. One more unlikely scenario if the Rockets win all 5 games and end up on 46-36 and the Hornets and Memphis some how trip up and finish winning only 2 of their remaining games and also tie with the Rockets on 46-36. The Rockets would then end up with the 7th seed. We are going to have to face it the Rockets pretty much need to win the last 5 games and it is doable. Either way there are to many variables for the Rockets to determine if they make it to the playoffs. They just have to keep winning to put the pressure on Memphis and the Hornets and hope one of them stumbles. You under estimate Landry. He's probably going to spank us as well as Utah and Phoenix. It sucks to play against a former Rocket that brings it.
I see a win out but I'm not sure that the other teams will lose enough. I think our only hope is that the Hornets lose to the Jazz or the Suns along with the games that they should lose.
Yup... Landry and Ariza are playing real good - two ex Rockets that will end up being major reasons for the Rockets not making the playoffs. With West out, the Hornets have not missed a beat at power forward. Landry is playing real good; maybe not the best rebounder. But he knows how to score the basketball. He's a gifted offensive player... no doubt about it. Sux that ex-Rockets are keeping the Rockets out of the playoffs.
I am sure we can. Problem is, we need Nawlins or Memphis (or maybe even Portland) to pull off the greatest choke job ever. All the Rockets can do is go 5-0 (which is pretty much an absolute must at this point).
I made some voodoo dolls of key players from Memphis and NO.. I made em out of paper towels and Popsicle sticks. I will be snapping the arms and legs during their games..
Can you imagine the carnage on this board if it came down to winning against Minnesota and the Rockets lost it.
