then why is everyone here clamoring for Bad Stevens and how Les would be interested in him. If anything, Calipari has more of a record in the game than Stevens, I'm sure Les would be open to listening.
adelman does want to come back. he has made it clear recently. Its all up to les. I will def lose respect from organization and les if he does not resign it. Adelman has done everything and more with the situations he has been put to.
College is different from the Pros. In college the coach is always in control, and your personality and recruiting skillz are infinitely more important than your actual coaching acumen. In the pros, your talent will most likely be inferior to your opponent, and whatever recruiting ability you may have will be wasted because that will be considered tampering. So most great college coaches generally turn out to be bad nba coaches.
Rudy Tomjanovich, Jeff Van Gundy, and Rick Adelman to John Calipari? Yuck. Calipari lacks certain qualities a successful NBA coach needs.
1) Stevens is a stat jock and sabremetrics believer. Before he was a coach he crunched numbers for a Fortune 50 company. He runs his teams like that. Iif you listen to his post game while other coaches might say "we did a good job stopping penetration in the paint" he's the's breaking down the possessions mathematically and comparing them to past sample sizes (games). He and Morey would be like a stat nerd dream team 2) He's coached his team the past 4 years like Houston has tried to run its team the last 4 years... taking lesser players plus 1 or no star and creating a gameplan around the entire unit. If Les intends to stay on this track of using roleplayers and creating a winning franchise for a discount using sabremetrics Stevens is a good match philosophically. 3) Even if he wins tomorrow, Stevens has 0 track record outside of a tiny Mid Major school and it's an open question whether he's ready for a major college program yet alone the NBA. Calipari just cant coach. He can't make adjustments. He's like the less successful version of Phil Jackson... rely on superior talent, dont call any timeouts, fail at making any kind of in-game adjustments. Every game Cal coaches is like that Houston-LA series where Jackson just sat there as Adelman went small used Hayes, Aaron Brooks to run roughshod over the gameplan that Jackson had prepared for Yao. Every game you're like... how the **** are they losing to this other team when they're so much more talented and where are the time outs.
How is this even a discussion?? I thought it was a well-known fact that with Calipari, you're going to get a scumbag coach who pulls out all the stops when it comes to recruiting, but doesn't know squat about X's and O's. The fact that he fell flat on his face the last time he coached in the NBA solidified that. If anything, him wanting to leave Kentucky after only two seasons tells me that he's probably got some sanctions coming his way, and he wants to get the hell out of Dodge before **** hits the fan. He relies on being able to recruit superior talent, and then rides that talent into the deeper rounds of the NCAA by feeding off of inferior teams. However, once the tournament dwindles down to the elite squads, he ALWAYS gets out coached because he simply doesn't have the strategic mind to hang with guys like Jim Calhoun, Bill Self, Roy Williams, and even Brad Stevens or Shaka Smart. He would get his lunch eaten in the NBA by every coach not named Avery Johnson.
Who won? You may not like him, but he gets the job done. Note that Houston has matched up very well against the Lakers the past few years - that partly explains how they got the 7 games against LA. Fisher is old and has got cement in his shoes. Brooks was basically one of the worst match ups you could ever draw up for him. Calipari is nowhere near the coach that Jackson is and he never will be.
i saw the espn interview with butler's coach. he looks very smart and young. his answer shows he definitely has very high IQ. with the players he has, he is making somthing happen. i would give him an opportunity instead CAL since CAL already had a chance.

Jackson is a guru because MJ/Pippen, Kobe/Shaq, and Kobe/Gasol/Odom. No other reason. If you think the zen master would have turned around New Jersey (as Calipari was tasked to do), you are flippin' nuts. He wins because of who he coaches...period. If they gave out a Coach with the Best Players award each year, Phil would have as many as he has rings. He has no titles without MJ or Kobe....ZERO. If he were available tomorrow, I wouldn't take him. I am not advocating Calipari by any means but Jackson is on down the list when it comes to great coaches in the NBA. If Jackson ever takes a job with lesser talent and does something more than that talent should have been capable of (example: Adelman with the Rockets the past 2 seasons), maybe he moves up in the coaching ranks. As his retirement will probably coincide with Kobe's or sooner, we will probably never know if he can actually coach lesser talent to greater things which is the true definition of a great coach.
