Have you ever seen an Animal Slaughtered? Have you ever seen a chicken, pig, cow etc actually slaughtered? I often wonder how many people actually seen the process of how food gets to your plate . . .from running around the yard to being in the Colonel's bucket. I also wonder how did it effect you? Rocket River
Yes I have seen an animal slaughtered. I don't see how it would affect me, other than being really gross. How does it affect you?

Well . . Some folx became vegetarians after. . or even join things like PETA. To me it a gross and a bit sad but hell . . it was the whole Circle of Life thing for me Rocket River
Yep. Rabbits are the toughest to watch. Hard not to be affected, it should make someone uncomfortable to watch a living thing get killed. Especially in our culture, where we've been conditioned to just think that food comes from styrofoam and plastic packages. It's jarring.
I'm with you watching an animal get slaughtered is pretty nasty and wouldn't volunteer to go and watch again. My Dad took me to see a goat get slaughtered but that isn't going to turn me into a vegetarian.
Saw some videos on it. Very tough to watch, as mentioned already. After the last time I checked out some videos on it, I did become a vegetarian, although wouldn't attribute it all to seeing animals get slaughtered. More of a combination of things. And really, that was just to get me curious enough to try a vegetarian diet...which turned out to be really easy and not much of transition, so I just stuck with it.
I've seen animals slaughtered at a young age. It didn't effect me at all actually. I was more or less confused why a chicken would flop around for a long time without it's head.
This thread is incredible. I seriously thought more people had killed their own food. No wonder there is such a divide in this country. I have slaughtered game animals and hogs that I raised. Also have seen cattle that I raised slaughtered.
I wouldn't be able to watch in person. I could only get about 20 minutes into Death on a Factory Farm (an HBO film that was disturbingly well-done). I choose not to watch videos of animal slaughtering anymore. Pigs are the hardest for me to see suffer. Considering they are more intelligent than dogs, it's painful to see terror in their eyes as they try so hard to escape death. That panic, pain and suffering is enough to un-appetize me.
I've watched a pig slaughter house video before...it was pretty gross, and sad. But then I thought of bacon...now I'm just happy I don't have to process it myself.
Same. I frequented butcher shops as a kid so I've always been aware of how the meat got to my dinner plate. Also, I eat whatever I hunt so I treat game with the utmost respect.
I've seen it happen before. I've seen chickens and cows being slaughtered as a kid, and the only reason it bothered me was I had adopted the cow as a pet. lol. Outside of that, I couldn't care less. Brotha's gotta eat. Have you ever seen a vegetable getting slaughtered? Now that's painful to watch.
This. I saw a pig and chickens slaughtered in Bolivia. I was a kid, it didn't really affect me at all.
I remember once as a kid I helped to butcher some goosefish. I was probably 9 at the time and was put off by all of the blood and fish guts. That didn't turn me off from eating fish and meat. I went vegetarian for a few years though when I first got into Buddhism. That ended when I started dating a woman who was a chef.
Also factory slaughterhouses are nothing like killing and butchering game that one has hunted or raised on a family farm.
when i was younger my parents used to always slaughter animals. When i got to be around age 12 they taught me how to. They taught me that not all the time there is gonna be someone there to do the work for you, sometimes its better to learn little things that benefit you later on in life.
In Chinese markets chicken are slaughtered in front of the buyer if requested for convenience. Seen it multiple times, however it's become less of an afterthought over time.
